Making money in Bannerlord

The main reason that I am sharing this secret with you guys is that I feel like it isn’t getting enough attention from Bannerlord players, and it’s one of the best ways to get money. I mean, so far, all the tips I’m hearing about making money in Bannerlord amount to:

  • Buying items in one city and selling them off in another city. If you’re using this method, I would advise you to approach caravans going from one city to another, as they often share tips on which items you should buy and where to sell them.
  • Killing looters and raiders, and collecting the money and items they’ve looted. The best solution for this is to find their hideouts.
  • Starting a caravan business.
  • Buying workshops. This method will grant you a steady income.

Don’t get me wrong, those methods do provide a lot of money, but my moneymaker method will have you generating an incredible amount of money with incredibly low effort. Plus it doesn’t take too long to do, so it’s a win-win situation.

The secret is… SMELTING!

Yup, you read that correctly. That smithing option that you probably saw once when entering a city – and very likely ignored – is now going to become your best friend. You might have thought that making weapons would make for a better profit than smelting them, but I’m here to show you that’s not entirely true.

Plus, I am going to share with you guys the step-by-step of this moneymaker method, so you can get big returns on your investment in no time.

Step 1 – Choosing your customers

The first step to becoming rich by smelting in Bannerlord is to get yourself into any major southern city. That’s right, this method is very specific, so you best pay attention.

Why southern cities? Well, southern cities place a higher value on iron and steel, so you will make a lot more money in those cities. If you are having second thoughts about which cities I’m talking about, then look at the image below. Simply put, if there is snow, it’s bad for business.

Step 2 – Buying the materials

Once you are inside a city, it is time to head to the trader shop. The idea here is to search and buy weapons, but not just any weapons. In order for this method to work, you really need to focus on the good weapons.

The ideal would be for you to focus on 500+ gold weapons. If that is out of your reach, begin with cheap weapons such as simple swords and just about any battleaxe. Once you acquire enough money for an upgrade, move on to higher-value weapons.

There are countless weapons to choose from, but so far, the ones that provided me with a noticeably higher profit were:

  • The Heavy Executioner’s Axe
  • The Northern Decorated Axe
  • The Light Royal Mace

Step 3 – Smelt, smelt, smelt

So you have spent all your coin on weapons and are now ready to do the magic. In order to smelt, you need to head over to any city and click the Smithy option at the city’s menu. Once that is done, click the smelting option.

To smelt items, you will require a natural resource: charcoal.

Buying or making charcoal

Charcoal can be bought pretty much anywhere, from large cities to small villages, but if for some reason you have a hard time finding any, just make your own. All you need to make charcoal is to buy hardwood, then head to the smithy and refine it. Voilá, you now have charcoal.

Smelting the weapons

Once you have got the weapons and the charcoal, return to the smithy, which can be found in any city, and get to smelting. It doesn’t take too long to smelt a weapon, but you will have to do it individually, as you can’t just select all items you want to see smelted.

And when you are finished with smelting all the weapons in your inventory, you just need to head to any major southern city and sell every resource you got from the items you bought.

If you have done everything right, you should now have tripled, or at least doubled your money’s worth. And that’s it! That’s my secret way to make money fast, which has made my life very luxurious in Bannerlord.

On a final note, I know the idea of using this method non-stop might sound very tempting, but please try not to overdo it. Over-flooding the market will result in a demand decrease, and so prices will lower significantly. So try to use this method moderately, and combine it with the other methods I mentioned at the beginning of the article.

  1. Don’t forget to mention that every companion can also smelt, and not just your player-character. Click on the portrait on the lower left of the smelting screen. Each of your companions have their own smelting skills you can level, and you might even have some companions that are already good at smelting 🙂

    1. Francis, you are a GENIUS! 😲

I have been using my companions for a gazillion tasks that would provide a lot of money and it just never occurred to me to use them for smelting items. I will do so now, thanks to you. 👏🙌
