The best new superhero games coming out in 2021 and beyond

Jump into your latex suit and unleash the superhero inside of you.

Unlike other lists of games coming out in 2021 we have our eyes on, finding entries for a superhero games list was not an easy task. Besides some popular titles, most promising new superhero games are not yet confirmed to come out in 2021.

But quantity is not quality! This list of new superhero games coming out in 2021 gathers the best games that let you use super powers to save your town – or destroy it.

Gotham Knights

Developer: WB Games Montréal
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Release Date: 2021
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Superhero fans, I have some bad news for you. Bruce is no more. No, not Bruce Willis. The other Bruce, better known as Batman.

The Dark Crusader is dead in Gotham Knights, and you instead roam the streets of Gotham City as a member of the Batman Family. You can choose between Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and of course, Robin. As the game suggests, players can “step into the knight” – even though that sounds painful.

Gotham Knights - World Premiere Trailer

WB Games should announce the official release date of Gotham Knights soon, as the company is currently hiring profiles for Gotham Knights and Hogwarts Legacy marketing campaigns.

Shadow Man Remastered

Developer: Nightdive Studios
Publisher: Valiant Entertainment
Release Date: 2021
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Shadow Man was initially released in 1999, before the invention of smartphones and the Wii. The story, based on the Shadow Man comic books, follows the adventures of a lineage of voodoo warriors. Jack the Ripper was one of them, so it isn’t that cute.

Shadow Man Remastered Second Teaser Trailer - Nightdive Studios

The remastered version of Shadow Man is expected to come out in 2021 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Just like most remastered games, Shadow Man Remastered will bring shining new graphics and a more realistic version of their pixelated heroes.

Shadow Man Remastered will also include new content cut from the original game, which is a nice treat for OG players.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Developer: Rocksteady Studios
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Release Date: 2022
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

After Batman’s terrible fate in Gotham Knights, another fan-favorite superhero is under attack in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This time, Bruce Wayne is out of danger, but Clark Kent is not. Superman is in the crosshairs in the first teaser of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the latest game from the creators of the Batman: Arkham series.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Official Teaser Trailer

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is high on my hype list. This revamped version of Metropolis is intriguing, and far removed from the usual dark places we roam in Arkham City. Harley Quinn is as crazy as ever, setting the tone for this new (anti)superhero game. The weapons are fancy, from baseball bombs to rockets or submachine guns.

In general, the tone of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League seems dynamic and funny, which is nice change of pace in the Batman universe.

Injustice 3

Developer: NetherRealm Studios
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (TBC)

The popular fighting game for superhero lovers is back… or should be back soon, as the rumors around Injustice 3 are getting louder and louder. Ed Boon, co-creator of Injustice and Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios teased at a sequel to the DC Comics brawler.

In this short video, two Jokers are talking to each other. One claims “Only two of us ? That’s an Injustice! What we could do with a third…” That may slightly sound like like an Injustice 3 teaser. We hope to have more information about Injustice 3 this year – and ideally get a release date.

Bonus: Marvel’s Avengers

Developer: Crystal Dynamics
Publisher: Square Enix
Release Date: DLC 2021
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Marvel’s Avengers is not only an iconic superhero movie but also one of the most disappointing superhero video games ever made. Good news, though: Marvel’s Avengers is getting a lot of work done in 2021, and should come back stronger.

Marvel’s Avengers: A-Day | Official Trailer E3 2019

As Marvel’s Avengers initially launched last year, it is not a new game per se. Through several DLCs, Square Enix plans to recover from Marvel’s Avengers disastrous launch. Hawkeye, Spider-Man and Black Panther are officially coming to the game. Marvel villain Maestro will also arrive at some point to cause a bit of chaos, and shall be followed by more bad guys.

Even if Marvel’s Avengers had a rough start, it could be a great superhero game to play in 2021. Marvel is a real powerhouse, and the movies and series to come guarantee a lot of themed events and rewards for Marvel’s Avengers players.

And that concludes my selection of superhero games coming out in 2021. I wish there would have more entries to this list, but unlike movies, superhero games are not really popular at the moment. Stay tuned to SQUAD for more news about new (and old) superhero games of 2021 and beyond!
