With 20 Killers in Dead by Daylight it can be difficult to choose which one you want to play. Each has their own unique powers that interact with various add-ons and perks in different ways. To help you out, here are the top 5 strongest Killers in Dead by Daylight, and some tips on using each one.
The Nurse is without a doubt the strongest Killer in the game because of her power. In fact she will most likely always be the strongest Killer in the game, because it’s hard to imagine a Killer power ever matching hers. The Nurse can teleport through objects, as well as teleport upstairs or downstairs in buildings. This allows her to completely counter pallet looping and windows. She also has great map pressure and can travel across the map quickly.
However, playing the Nurse can be difficult because she is all about reading Survivors correctly. You also need to learn how to use her blinks to go the right distance. It is easy to overshoot or undershoot blinks when you first start out. You will also need to learn how long to hold your blink to teleport through certain objects – if you hold your blink for the wrong amount of time, you will fail to blink through.
The Nurse has quite the learning curve. But it is worth the effort once you master her.
If Nurse is not your cup of tea, then the next Dead by Daylight Killer you should try is the Spirit. She is another Killer that relies on predicting Survivor movements. Her ability allows her to enter a spirit world for a few seconds. While in the spirit world, she cannot see Survivors, and they cannot see her, but she can still hear them and see scratch marks. The goal is to catch up to a Survivor you are chasing and catch them off guard.
Spirit is like a weaker version of the Nurse, since the Spirit can fall victim to pallet looping, but she can counterplay it by using her power. Be careful though, because your success in this depends on the skill of the Survivor. Smart Survivors will be much harder to trick with her ability.
The Spirit is all about the mind games, so it can be difficult to learn how to play her. Using headphones when playing Spirit is important, as sound is crucial when playing her. You must listen to Survivor footsteps and breathing while in the Spirit world if you hope to catch them, since Survivors like to backtrack when they think the Spirit is in the spirit world.
3. Pyramid Head
Pyramid Head is the newest Killer in Dead by Daylight, and he arrived armed with a deadly power. Pyramid Head’s ability allows him to throw a ranged attacks out through objects and walls. If he inflicts Torment on Survivors, he can send them to a Cage of Atonement instead of hooking them. The reason he is strong is because he can counter pallet loops and windows, making these areas dangerous for Survivors. His ranged attack is really strong as long as you can aim it correctly.
Once again, you will have to be able to predict Survivor movements to have success with this Killer. If you think a Survivor is going to jump a window or throw a pallet, throw out your ranged attack to hit them. Downing Survivors quickly is what makes him strong, not his Cages of Atonement – although they do have their advantages, too.
If you want to know more, I have a guide on using his power.
Huntress is a strong Killer but she certainly takes a lot of practice – even more practice than Nurse, in fact. In order to aim your hatchets correctly you need to know how they arc, and how large the hitboxes of objects in Dead by Daylight are. That way you know what items you can hit through and which you cannot. Just because it looks like a hatchet will go over an object does not always mean it will, because the hitboxes of objects do not always match their size.
For example, the trucks on the Autohaven Wreckers maps have a space about the truck’s bed so it looked like you could throw hatchets over them. However, originally there was a hitbox there, fully blocking hatchets. Behaviour Interactive has adjusted the trucks’ hitbox since, so the Huntress can throw over a truck’s bed. This is a good thing, but serves to remind that there could be more hitboxes like that in other maps.
If you can master the Huntress’ hatchets, you can be a deadly Killer. However, due to how slow she is, she can easily lose games as well. Her ability to kill is somewhat dependent on the maps you get with her. Some Dead by Daylight maps have a lot of open space for her to throw hatchets, while others have a lot of objects to block her. If you can learn how to work around her limitations, you will be an effective Killer.
Even though Hillbilly has been nerfed with the addition of the Overheat mechanic, he is still a strong Killer. You just have to be more cautious about when you rev your chainsaw. What makes Hillbilly strong is he has the best mobility of any Killer in Dead by Daylight. Hillbilly can cross the map within seconds with his chainsaw, which gives him the best map pressure of any Killer.
Along with this mobility, Hillbilly can put Survivors into the dying state from full health. This is a strong ability as it cuts down chases and allows Hillbilly to apply constant pressure. This allows him to capitalize on Survivor mistakes, quickly turning the game in his favor.
Hillbilly’s chainsaw can also interact with the environment in interesting ways. If you hit the sides of objects you can bounce off them, allowing Hillbilly to make tight turns during his charge. If you can master these bounce-turns, then no Survivor can escape your chainsaw.
