With The Recluse being one of the top SMGs and weapons in Destiny 2 since Season of the Drifter, not many weapons have had a chance to be in the spotlight. However, with sunsetting around the corner, many players are experimenting with new SMGs. How good is the Escape Velocity SMG in Destiny 2 and what are its best perks?
Perk combinations
Escape Velocity is one of the few weapons in Destiny 2 that has sight options instead of barrel perks. The three sights you want to keep an eye out for are the IS 2 Classic, IS 5 Circle and the Model 6 Loop. These sights all increase the handling stat, which is important on SMGs. In terms of magazine perks, you should look for Tactical Mag, Appended Mag or Flared Magwell. These either increase stability and ammo count, or the reload speed of the weapon.
For a PvE roll, Threat Detector and Overflow are solid first column perks. These let you have better reload speed and allow you to stay in fights for longer periods. The damage perks you want to look for are Surrounded and Vorpal Weapon. In most cases I would take Surrounded over Vorpal Weapon. The ultimate PvE combo would be Threat Detector or Overflow combined with Surrounded.
Escape Velocity is fairly average in PvP. I was not the biggest fan of using this, especially since most people are running weapons like Gnawing Hunger and The Summoner, which will out-range this SMG in most fights. And once you get into an effective range, you have to compete against the shotgun apes. With lack of a consistent and reliable damage perk like Rampage or Kill Clip, I would strongly advise not running Escape Velocity in higher end PvP activities like Competitive or Trials of Osiris. Zen Moment does have the potential to keep this gun super accurate, however.
