2021 was a great year for PlayStation, and more generally for all gamers. The PlayStation 5 is among the best-selling consoles despite its production shortages, and studios keep announcing new games for the console. With all those announcements, it may be hard to keep track of the best games coming out on PlayStation, whether its for last gen’s PS4 or the PS5. Here are 5 great MMO games coming out in 2022 on PlayStation.
Lineage W
Lineage is back with a fifth entry, called Lineage W. A new Lineage is major news for MMORPG fans, as the series only has two non-mobile titles: Lineage, released in 1998, and Lineage II, released in 2003. This new MMORPG is the most ambitious Lineage game ever, with cross-platform and cross-region large-scale battles.
This August, NCSoft opened the pre-registration for Lineage W. 15 hours later, 2 millions players already signed up for the game and locked their character’s name. The game is set to release worldwide on Nov. 4, 2021, but will reach the PlayStation 5 only in 2022.
Isonzo
Isonzo is the third entry in Blackmill Games’ WW1 series, following Verdun and Tannenberg. Just like its predecessors, Isonzo is set during World War I, this time on the Italian front. The game is inspired by the 12 Battles of the Isonzo, where the Italian armies tried to push back the Austro-Hungarian soldiers around the Isonzo river.
The terrain is key in Isonzo. The mountains can be quite unforgiving, and progressing on steep terrain while under fire is a real challenge. Besides the usual mechanics of shooting at anything that looks like an enemy, players can also interact with the environment by blowing up bridges or cutting down barbed wire to sneak into enemy territory.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen
The Witch Queen is the sixth expansion for Destiny 2. It brings new raids and dungeons, as well as weapon crafting and glaives. Players will be able to customize the abilities of their glaives, which can deal both melee and short-range damage. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen also introduces a new difficulty for all new and existing story content, called Legendary.
Initially scheduled in 2021, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is finally coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows, and Stadia in February 22, 2022.
Skull and Bones
Not to be mistaken with the secret society of Yale University, Skull and Bones is a new pirate game developed by Ubisoft. You begin the adventure as a young captain who wants to take over the seven seas. From there, it is up to you to customize your ship and gather your ideal pirate crew.
Skull and Bones has been in the works for over 8 years now, and finally reached its Alpha phase in the summer of 2021. The game was initially scheduled as a multiplayer expansion for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, before turning into a spin-off called Black Flag Infinite. Finally, Ubisoft settled for a new IP titled Skull and Bones.
While Ubisoft haven’t yet announced the official release date for Skull and Bones, its progress into an Alpha phase is a good sign for the future of the game. We should have more information in 2022, and maybe even a publicly playable version by the end of the year.
Grand Theft Auto V
Have you heard about this obscure little game called Grand Theft Auto V? Nine years after its initial release, Grand Theft Auto V is coming to yet another platform with a launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 22, 2022. Whether the game fits your definition of an MMO or not, GTA V is a game like no other, and it’s well worth playing while we wait for the mythical sixth entry into the series.
That wraps up our selection of 5 MMO games coming to PlayStation in 2022! If your next gaming addiction is not on this list, make sure to check out the MMO games coming to PC, Xbox, and mobile.
