As 2021 approaches its end, it is time to take a look at what the new year has in store for gamers. 2022 is shaping up to be a great year for gaming, with plenty of new titles coming out on PlayStation. From Horizon Forbidden West to Hogwarts Legacy, here are some of the most anticipated new PlayStation games coming out in 2022.
Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, one of the best PlayStation games of 2017. Aloy is back to hunt the machines of her post-apocalyptic United States, but this time she is heading West to the lands of California, Utah, and Nevada.
Horizon Forbidden West is an open-world RPG with an even bigger map than Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy gains in mobility, with the ability to free-climb, swim underwater, and glide across the air with her Shieldwing. The game also features new machines to face, like the Clawstrider or the powerful Tremortusk.
Gran Turismo 7
If Forza Horizon 5 broke all records on the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation will not let its competitor keep the crown of racing games much longer. Gran Turismo 7 is coming to PlayStation in 2022 with brand new cars, circuits, and weather options.
One of the strengths of Gran Turismo 7 is its customization feature. You can change almost everything on your car, up to the brakes or transmission gearing. The game even features the option to perform oil changes or wash your car. And once you are done playing garage simulator, you can take your car for a drive on one of the 90 available tracks.
God of War: Ragnarok
God of War: Ragnarok is the sequel to God of War (2018), the critically-acclaimed action-adventure game that snatched several Game of the Year awards.
In Ragnarok, Kratos and his son Atreus continue their journey a few years after their 2018 story ended. The end of the world, also known as Ragnarok in Norse mythology, is on its way. Kratos and Atreus are the only ones who can stop it and save the Nine Realms, battling against powerful Gods like Freya and Thor along the way.
Forspoken is an upcoming action RPG developed by Luminous Production, a subsidiary of Square Enix that worked on Final Fantasy XV. The aim of this studio is to develop AAA video games with Square Enix’s proprietary Luminous Engine, and Forspoken is their first new IP.
The game follows the adventures of Frey, a New Yorker transported to the mysterious world of Athia. His goal is to find his way back to the Big Apple, all while mastering his newly-acquired magical powers to defeat the enemies standing in his way.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is the latest project from Bethesda Softworks. The game is set in a futuristic version of Tokyo, where supernatural forces have caused the population to vanish in an instant.
Ghostwire: Tokyo mixes a futuristic cityscape, traditional Japanese cultural elements, and supernatural powers. Your mission will be to find out what happened to the inhabitants who vanished, overthrow the evil occultist, and master your own powers.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe. You play as a student of Hogwarts in the 1800s learning spells, crafting potions, and befriending mysterious beasts. Of course, you are no random student, but a powerful wizard able to wield Ancient Magic.
Hogwarts Legacy is dream come true for Potterheads who are still waiting for their letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For non-fans of the series, it remains an open-world RPG where you can embody a wizard chilling in a big castle, which is always nice.
Sifu follows the journey of a young kung-fu student looking for revenge after the murder of his family.
One of the most unique features of Sifu is its aging system. Whenever your character dies, he can come back to life with the power of a special pendant. However, this pendant charges with life energy, so each time you die, your character gets older. Aging reduces maximum health but increases offensive power. Seeing the progression of the main character is quite satisfying, and I for one will never get tired of seeing an old bearded man beating up young mobsters.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
Rainbow Six Extraction is the latest opus of Ubisoft’s FPS franchise. It is a spin-off of Rainbow Six Siege, where players must work together to wipe out aliens called Archaeans.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is mainly a multiplayer game, as the core loop puts a lot of emphasis on cooperation and communication. The game comes with two Buddy-Pass Tokens allowing your friends to download a 14-day trial copy of the game for free.
