This E3 was a bit different from what we are used to, but Nintendo still delivered with its showcase. A Nintendo Direct is always an event to look forward to, and this year was no exception. Here is the complete list of all new games, consoles, and updates announced during the 2021 E3 Nintendo Direct.
Metroid Dread
12 years after its first reveal at E3 and having survived two cancellations, Metroid Dread finally gets a release date. Dread is a sequel to Metroid Fusion, a 2002-game for the Nintendo DS. Samus Aran will be back in Metroid Dread on Oct. 8.
Mario Party Superstars
Mario and his friends are ready to party! Mario Party Superstars combines 5 classic boards from the Nintendo 64 games, as well as 100 minigames from every game in the series. Superstars comes out Oct. 29 on the Nintendo Switch.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the Game Boy Advance games Advance Wars and its sequel Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. The Nintendo Switch remake will hit the shelves on Dec. 3.
WarioWare: Get It Together!
WarioWare: Get It Together! is a collection of mini-games featuring Mario’s rival, Wario. For the first time in a WarioWare game, two players will be able to collaborate to beat the fast-paced, eccentric games prepared by Wario. Wario and his mini-games are coming to the Nintendo Switch on Sept. 10.
Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda
The Game & Watch is a Nintendo handheld console, featuring a preset of games. This new edition includes the first three Zelda games: The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and A Link’s Awakening. This special edition of the Game & Watch also features a mini-game called Vermin starring Link as the main character.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild finally gets a sequel, with a new trailer revealed during this E3 Nintendo Direct. The sequel to Breath of the Wild 2 is set two years after the events from the original game. Link’s adventure will continue in 2022.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
Mario is teaming up with the Rabbids one more time in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. This game is the sequel to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, which came out in 2017.
Doki Doki Litterature Club Plus!
Doki Doki Litterature Club is a cute dating sim that will scar you for life. You have been warned. Doki Doki Litterature Club Plus! comes out June 30.
Shin Megami Tensei V
Shin Megami Tensei V is the latest installment of the Shin Megami Tensei RPG series. The game will come out exclusively on Nintendo Switch on Nov. 12.
Life is Strange Remastered Collection + Life is Strange: True Colors
The first two Life is Strange games are coming to the Nintendo Switch, as well as the latest opus, Life is Strange: True Colors. While there is no date yet for the release of Life is Strange Remastered Collection, True Colors will be released on Sept. 10.
New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character
Kazuya Mishima, the iconic fighter from Tekken, joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate cast. He will join the game in the Fighters DLC, alongside Min Min from ARMS, Steve & Alex from Minecraft, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, and Pyra/Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin is the second RPG set in the Monster Hunter universe. This new game is a sequel to Monster Hunter Stories and will release worldwide on July 9.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a compilation of over 300 recreated stages from the original three Super Monkey Ball games, a series launched on GameCube in the early 2000s. The game will be available on Oct. 5.
Danganronpa Decadence
Danganronpa celebrates its 10th anniversary with Danganronpa Decadence, coming later this year on Nintendo Switch. This is a remastered collection of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. It also features a new game: Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass
Nintendo announced a Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Expansion Pass, bringing more content to the game. The first wave of the expansion pass, called Pulse of the Ancients, will be available on June 18. A second wave, called Guardian of Remembrance, is expected in November.
Mario Golf: Super Rush
Mario Golf: Super Rush, as its name suggests, follows the adventures of Mario and his friends on a golf course. It is the seventh installment in the Mario Golf series and introduces new game modes to the classic ones. Mario and his friends will hit the green again on June 25.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was announced during a Nintendo Direct last February, and this year’s E3 gave us more information about the game – specifically its gameplay mechanics. Skyward Sword HD is coming with an exclusive version on the Nintendo Switch on July 16.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a remaster of the first two Tony Hawk’s games: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. These iconic games from the early 2000s will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 25.
Just Dance 2022
The most popular dance game series is back, but for the first time, it won’t make it to the Wii. Just Dance 2022 is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, coming on Nov. 4.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cloud Version
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy made quite an impression when revealed during the Square Enix E3 showcase. Star-Lord, Groot, and their friends will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 26.
Two Point Campus
Two Point Campus is the latest game from the creators of Two Point Hospital. In this new management sim, players will be running a university instead of a hospital. The game will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in 2022.
Worms Rumble
The deadliest invertebrates in video games will invade the Switch once again with Worms Rumble, coming June 23. Worms Rumble will feature an exclusive skin for the Nintendo Switch: the Patchwork Bear.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water
If you liked taking pictures in New Pokemon Snap but felt it was too cute for you, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water may be your thing. The only way to advance through this survival horror game is by taking pictures of ghosts. A remastered version of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch later this year.
Cruis’n Blast
Cruis’n Blast is the latest installment of the Cruis’n racing games series, originally released on arcades in January 2017. The racing game is now coming to the Nintendo Switch, with 29 different tracks and 23 vehicles.
DOOM Eternal – The Ancient Gods DLC
DOOM Eternal gets its first DLC ported to the Nintendo Switch, with The Ancient Gods – Part One. This DLC brings new missions, environments, and enemies to rip and tear. While The Ancient Gods – Part Two is already available on PC, there is still no information on when it will arrive to the Switch.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot + A New Power Awakens Set
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot mixes fast-paced fighting with RPG elements, set in the world of the Dragon Ball franchise. The game was already available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, and now makes its way to the Nintendo Switch. The Switch version, coming September 24, will also feature the A New Power Awakens Set.
Strange Brigade
Three years after its release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, Strange Brigade is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Astria Ascending
Kazushige Nojima, the writer of Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X, X-2, as well as the Kingdom Heart series, is back with a new JRPG: Astria Ascending. The game finally has a release date and will come to the Nintendo Switch on September 30.
Once again, Nintendo didn’t disappoint with its Nintendo Direct games showcase. The company not only announced the expected ports of existing games, but also managed to keep the surprise of Metroid’s revival and the upcoming sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The one thing we notably didn’t get any news about was the Nintendo Switch Pro, but we may hear more about it during the next Nintendo Direct this year.
