2020 is full of fun things happening. It’s the Year of the Rat, and a whole bunch of horror games are going to be released this year too (Yay us!) So, if you are an absolute horror-holic like me, then this is pretty good news.
Right now, let’s check out some of the most anticipated horror games of 2020.
First up is Unholy, which looks like a very interesting game in terms of plot. The players will take up the role of Saidah, one of the very few remaining humans in the Last City. In this city, humans are the bottom class, while other creatures thrive and dominated above them. Every day, humans are forced to hide, in order to survive the hunting parties ran by those other creatures.
That system works well until Saidah’s kid gets abducted and she is forced to risk her life and save her child.
It’s the absolute perfect game for players who enjoy stealth games! Plus, players get to use certain tools that allow them to impersonate the creatures for a period of time. How cool is that?
The Last of Us Part II
I don’t know about you guys, but this one is actually one of my most anticipated games of 2020. I mean, I played the first part back in 2014 and I was completely blown away by the story. The graphics were remarkably good and the story was simply amazing.
This second part of the game is set 5 years after Joel and Ellie’s first journey through the post-pandemic United States of America. They are living in a thriving community of survivors, with the constant threat from the infected and other not-so-friendly humans looming. But then something happens and Ellie is forced to embark on yet another adventure.
The Last of Us Part II is set to be released on May 29th and Naughty Dog promises that the game will have an emotional and complex story, a dashing yet dangerous world and intense survival gameplay.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War
Alrighty then. We’ve had games about Nazis and we’ve had games about zombies, but it is quite rare to see a game with both zombie and Nazis! This game actually gives me sort of a Left 4 Dead vibe, mixed with the Zombified mode in Call of Duty.
It’s a 1-4 players game and it’s set in the year 1940. This game is all about fighting Hitler’s mighty and quite undead hordes. We’re talking abominable creatures and massive weapons.
Resident Evil 3: Remake
2020 will also deliver for fans of one of the all-time best horror franchises in gaming history: Resident Evil. That’s right, Resident Evil 3 is getting a remake! After that Resident Evil 2 remake, which was actually pretty good, it was almost mandatory for Capcom to remake part 3.
If you’re not familiar with the plot, the story is set in 1998, at the same time as the vents as Resident Evil 2. However, this time around players will be controlling Jill Valentine.
Dying Light 2
Next on the zombie game list is Dying Light 2. The first Dying Light was an awesome survival horror game set in The City, a massive open world for players to explore. The sequel should deliver more on the intense gameplay the original is known for: parkour action, indiscriminate zombie eradication, and a dynamic day-night cycle which affects how monsters behave.
Developer Techland has promised a better and deeper experience this time around so that’s definitely something to look forward to. Dying Light 2 was supposed to be released in Spring 2020, but it has since been delayed until an unknown date, most likely in Q3 or Q4 of 2020.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan
Last but not least is The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan. I know the title says “horror games of 2020”, but I just couldn’t help myself. Man of Medan is an amazing game and completely deserves this mention. It came out about 7 months ago and it’s an absolute must if you are a true horror games fan.
The story is centered on 5 different people, who decide to go on an underwater diving expedition to find a submerged World War II plane wreck. It starts out as a simple and entertaining journey, which then turns into a complete nightmare.
And the best part? It’s an interactive game, in which you play as all 5 characters. You will make decisions and these decisions will decide whether people live or die. The goal is to help all characters survive the entire game, which proved to be quite difficult, when I played it anyway.
And we have reached the end of this article. These are the horror games I am most looking forward to in 2020 -- so far. Make sure to check back for an updated list soon! And while you’re at it, check out the Top 5 MMOs coming up this year as well!
