ADP has dominated the Standard format for the entirety of the 2020/21 format as the infamous ADP/Z deck. Since it has rotated out of Standard (although Zacian V is still in it), it is still solid in Expanded, especially with Double Dragon Energy, which lets you simplify its GX attack. In the 2022 Expanded format, we’ve been seeing plenty of ADP Dragonite decks in the Expanded format of Pokemon TCG Online. The deck benefits from having Fairy-type weakness on ADP, since Fairy types have been discontinued without changing the Weaknesses on cards like ADP.
The card virtually has no weakness, aside from a direct counter in the card Pokemon Ranger, which negates the effect of ADP’s GX attack.
Remove all effects of attacks on each player and his or her Pokémon.
However, most Expanded decks are not running this card anymore, since the ADP craze has died down a bit, and you can take advantage of it and use this deck in tournaments as well.

This ADP Dragonite Expanded deck is pretty customizable, and you’ll see plenty of variations depending on the Pokemon TCG Online format you’re playing. Only ADP, Tapu Koko, and Dragonite V are the must-haves in this deck, along with the Expanded staples: Dedenne-GX, Tapu Lele-GX, and Crobat V. You can also go the Zacian V route by taking out the Electric half of the deck, and adding in Metal Energy instead.
Arceus Dialga & Palkia-GX and Altered Creation
The first thing you should be looking for with this deck is pulling off Altered Creation, ADP’s GX attack, and the most broken GX attack in the game, which lets you take an extra Prize card for each knockout while also giving you a damage boost to all of your Pokemon.
Altered Creation-GX: For the rest of this game, your Pokémon’s attacks do 30 more damage to your opponent’s Active Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance). If this Pokémon has at least 1 extra Water Energy attached to it (in addition to this attack’s cost), when your opponent’s Active Pokémon is Knocked Out by damage from those attacks, take 1 more Prize card. (You can’t use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)
This boost stays in effect even after ADP has been knocked out. You need 1 Metal and 1 Water Energy to pull off the full effect of the attack, and you have Double Dragon Energy that can help you satisfy this condition with just one Energy attachment instead of two. It can count as two of any type of Energy on a Dragon Pokemon (it is immediately discarded if you attach it to a non-Dragon-Type).
This card can only be attached to Dragon Pokémon. This card provides every type of Energy, but provides only 2 Energy at a time, only while this card is attached to a Dragon Pokémon.
This takes away the need to go for the Zacian V + Energy Switch combo, which we’ve seen in most ADP decks so far. For the rest of this guide, I am going to be assuming that you will have pulled off your Altered Creation-GX and are getting the +30 damage boost for all of your Pokemon. You also have the Item Card Muscle Band which gives you +20 damage for the Pokemon it is attached to, and you can fetch those using Guzma & Hala.
ADP’s main attack is Ultimate Ray, which will go up to 180 after Altered Creation-GX, allowing you to two-shot any Pokemon in the game.
Ultimate Ray (150) : Search your deck for up to 3 basic Energy cards and attach them to your Pokémon in any way you like. Then, shuffle your deck.
This attack is great because along with the damage, you’re also setting up your Bench and thinning your deck by taking out the Energy cards early on.
The other dragons
Dragonite V can do 280 damage in this deck with its Dragon Gale attack, while also spreading damage across your own Bench. To pull this off, you need two Energy attachments (Double Dragon + Electric). This is great for a 2-Prizer that is already getting an extra Prize card on getting knockouts.

You also have Naganadel & Guzzlord-GX, which is an optional card for this deck because its highlight, the GX attack is unusable after you’ve gone for Altered Creation-GX. It is still a good attacker due to its 210 damage attack, and its ability to heal itself which is useful due to Dragonite V’s collateral damage. This deck isn’t doing over 250 damage like other meta decks like Eternatus VMAX, but since it is getting a Prize card bonus due to Altered Creation, the damage numbers aren’t an issue.
Support cards
Stormy Mountains makes setting up with this deck pretty easy, and works with Electric Pokemon as well.
Once during each player’s turn, that player may search their deck for a Basic Lightning Pokémon or Basic Dragon Pokémon and put it onto their Bench. Then, that player shuffles their deck.
Make sure to keep your Stadium card in play, because this deck is threatened by the popular Path to the Peak Stadium card which negates most of your abilities.

Tapu Koko is an interesting Prism Star card that helps you put on Energy quickly. To do that, you need two Electric Energy cards in your discard pile.
Ability: Dance of the Ancients
Once during your turn (before your attack), if this Pokémon is on your Bench, you may choose 2 of your Benched Pokémon and attach a Lightning Energy card from your discard pile to each of them. If you do, discard all cards from this Pokémon and put it in the Lost Zone.
You can use this to power up your Vikavolt V and Zeraora-GX, which has an ability that gives you free Retreats for all of your Pokemon that have an Electric Energy attachment on them. Vikavolt V is another card you can replace in this deck, as it simply satisfies the Electric Pokemon slot.
Endnote
ADP is still going strong in Expanded in 2022, and is a great pick in the current meta where Fairy-Type decks are extinct and no one can hit it for Type weakness. This deck is one tier below what it was in Standard last year, as its pairing with Zacian V will always remain one of the most broken combinations in the game. However, it has been doing pretty well in tournaments with Dragonite V instead – which has no Weakness or Resistance on the card – and can do a lot of damage with the Altered Creation boost.
