The Comedian is another returning weapon from the original Destiny. While its appearance hasn’t changed, it has a large array of new perks. Here are the best perks you should look for on the Comedian in Destiny 2.
Perks and rolls
As with most shotguns, maximizing your range is important for damage. Rifled Barrel tends to be the top choice barrel perk but it drops your already low handling stat. Some solid replacements include Corkscrew Rifling and Smallbore. For magazine perks look for Assault Mag, Accurized Rounds, or Tactical Mag.
The first perk column is pretty abysmal. Ensemble is your best option for the added stat bonuses, but it requires allies to be nearby. Lead From Gold is also here, which helps with the ammo economy. Bottomless Grief, the Nightfall specific perk, is here but is situational, meaning its utility is limited.
In terms of boss damage perks, you can roll it with either Vorpal Weapon or Trench Barrel. You will always be in melee range, so Trench Barrel is easily activated. Other damage perks available are Adrenaline Junkie and One for All. However, I would not recommend One for All on shotguns.

- Hip-Fire Grip + Trench Barrel
Is the Comedian any good?
Yes but no. The Comedian has some merit in Destiny 2 PvP game modes but in PvE it is outclassed by so many other shotguns and archetypes. Add to this a lackluster perk pool and you have a weapon that will probably be vaulted by most players.
The Comedian drops from the Nightfalls and an Adept version can be obtained from Grandmaster Nightfalls.
