Darkest Before was a Pulse Rifle originally only obtained from Trials of the Nine. However, it has been reintroduced with new perks and rolls. Here are the best perks you should look for on Darkest Before in Destiny 2.
Perks and rolls
Range is a necessity on this Pulse Rifle, as it helps mitigate damage falloff. Corkscrew Rifling, Smallbore, and Hammer-Forged Rifling are barrels that help with this. For magazine perks look for Ricochet Rounds or High-Caliber Rounds.
Surplus still remains one of the best stat boost perks in the game. Overflow is present here as well, which can double your magazine size after picking up Special or Heavy ammo. If you would rather avoid reloading, look for Subsistence.
Your two options for damage perks are Rampage and One For All. Rampage is well-rounded in most activities while One For All shines in high-end PvE activities like Grandmaster Nightfalls. Elemental Capacitor provides great neutral game utility based on your subclass.

Is Darkest Before any good?
Darkest Before is one of the best Rapid-Fire Pulse Rifles in the game currently. It is super consistent in PvP with some solid rolls to back it up. It is not the strongest in PvE but it is still fairly useable. However, it will be outclassed by Pulse Rifles like the BXR-55 Battler.
Darkest Before can be farmed in the Prophecy dungeon, specifically from the Kell Echo in the last encounter.
