Friction Fire SMG review and best perks | Destiny 2

Friction Fire is a new SMGs that has been added to Destiny 2 with Season of the Hunt. This SMG is a precision frame  weapon and resides in the kinetic slot. Some are even calling it the next Antiope-D, which was a beloved SMG back in Year 2. Here are the perks and rolls you should look for on Friction Fire in Destiny 2.

Perks and rolls

As an SMG, Friction Fire requires as much range boost as possible. For barrel perks, look for Hammer-Forged Rifling or Smallbore. Friction Fire lacks a solid reload speed, so look for magazine perks that can help this out. Some great options are Tactical Mag, Alloy Magazine or Flared Magwell.

In the first column, you have a few solid choices. Threat Detector works well on SMGs, because you are often in the thick of battle. Killing Wind, one of the new perks added with Beyond Light, is also a good candidate. It increases a number of stats and has relatively long uptime. You can also pair Subsistence on the weapon, however this perk cuts your ammo carrying capacity.

There are really only two perks that stand out in the second column. Rampage will always be a must-have damage perk, and it pairs well with a Rampage Spec mod. The new perk Wellspring is great for recharging abilities, and brings a new playstyle to Destiny 2. Vorpal Weapon can also be found in the second column, but on primary weapons it lacks use.

Combos

Here are the perk combinations and god rolls you should look for with Friction Fire in Destiny 2:

  • Killing Wind + Rampage – One of the best feeling rolls on Friction Fire. Killing Wind increases optimal range along with movement speed, and pairs well with Rampage to clear rank and file enemies.
  • Threat Detector + Wellspring – Wellspring pairs well with ability builds and is great for ability recharge. Threat Detector will be activated at most times as long as you are in close range to your enemies.

Verdict

While Friction Fire has a hard time competing against other SMGs like Escape Velocity in the current sandbox, it can hold its own in niche situations. It’s ability to roll Killing Wind sets it apart from previous SMGs, allowing it boost its own range when you get kills.

Friction Fire can be farmed through Wrathborn Hunts and by turning in Recon Data to the Crow.
