Kamisato Ayato – he’s tall, he’s flowy, and he’s the ultimate anime sword user in Genshin Impact. Let’s talk about how to build him, starting with his artifacts.
Here are some of the artifact sets that you can use with Ayato:
- Heart of Depth – 4
- Heart of Depth – 2 + any +18% ATK set
- Blizzard Strayer/Thundering Fury – 4 (for Freeze and Electrocute teams respectively)
Compared to other characters, Ayato is a little easier to build as you don’t need to mix and match artifacts from different sets for the most part. A good four-piece Heart of Depth set is what you’ll be aiming for here. The two-piece set bonus nets you a nice little 15% bonus to your Hydro damage. The four-piece bonus is a 30% bonus to normal and charged attack damage for 15 seconds after use of an Elemental Skill – which in this case is your exploding water decoy (that also makes you anime as hell.)
The following artifact sets have a 2-piece bonus of the +18% ATK bonus that you’re looking for:
- Gladiator’s Finale
- Shimenawa’s Reminiscence
- Pale Flame
- Vermillion Hereafter
- Echoes of an Offering
Resolution of the Sojourner and Brave Heart also give the same ATK bonus, but are limited to a rarity of 3-4 stars.
Here are the Domains you need to visit for each set of Artifacts:
- Heart of Depth – Peak of Vindagnyr
- Blizzard Strayer – Peak of Vindagnyr (now that’s efficiency)
- Thundering Fury – Midsummer Courtyard
- Gladiator’s Finale – Dropped by Normal and Weekly Bosses, Domain Reliquaries (Spiral Abyss) and can be exchanged in the Artifact Strongbox.
- Shimenawa’s Reminiscence – Momiji-Dyed Court
- Pale Flame – Ridge Watch
- Vermillion Hereafter – The Lost Valley, Domain Reliquaries
- Echoes of an Offering – The Lost Valley, Domain Reliquaries
Set bonuses, stats, and swords
Blizzard Strayer is a good artifact set to run if you’re planning on using Ayato in a Freeze team comp. The two-piece bonus will net you a +15% bonus to Cryo DMG. The four-piece will increase your Crit Rate against Cryo-inflicted targets by 20%. If the opponent is frozen, your crit rate goes up an extra 20%. In the end, you stand to gain a boost of 40% to your Crit Rate, and a couple of enemy loot drops. Because… they’ll be dead.
Thundering Fury is essentially that, but for Electro in terms of the two-piece bonus. For the four-piece – you’re looking at a 40% increase to damage caused by Overload, Electro-Charged and Superconduct. Triggering any of those effects decreases the cooldown of your Skill by one second – and can trigger every 0.8 seconds.
In any case, you’re looking for Crit Rate/DMG on your Sands, Hydro DMG on your Goblet, and Crit Rate/Damage on your Circlet. Aim for Crit Rate/Damage, ATK%, Energy Recharge, and Elemental Mastery as your sub-stats.
For your weapon – you’re hoping to get lucky with the wishes. Your main options are Haran Geppaku Futsu, Primordial Jade Cutter, Mistsplitter Reforged, and Skyward blade – which are all 5-Star weapons. For those of us that can’t roll the right 5-Star weapon to save our lives – we can use The Black Sword, Amenoma Kaguchi (at third-level Refinement), and Blackcliff Longsword.
Who to team up with
In terms of possible Freeze comps, you could pair Ayato up with Ayaka, Kazuha, and Kokomi. Alternatively, you can swap Ayaka for Ganyu, Kazuha for Venti, and instead of having Kokomi, you could take Diona.
Keep in mind possible ability synergies when pairing up with Ayato, especially when it comes to choices like Kazuha and Venti as they can be pretty similar. Kazuha can pull enemies in and put down an Anemo Area-of-effect but Venti will pull every enemy into a singular point for you to mash on. Anyone you pair him up with should have a good way for the abilities to work off of each other.
You’re almost ready to go! You’ve got the information – now go off and start getting your artifacts, weapons, and characters in order. Have fun and enjoy admiring your Ayato in Genshin Impact.
