In today’s guide, I’ll tell you how to farm for Barbara – Deaconess of the Church of Favonius, Favonian Idol, and expert healer in Genshin Impact.
Here’s what Barbara will need for her level ascension:
- 1 Varunada Lazurite Sliver
- 9 Varunada Lazurite Fragments
- 9 Varunada Lazurite Chunks
- 6 Varunada Lazurite Gemstones
- 18 Divining Scrolls
- 30 Sealed Scrolls
- 36 Forbidden Curse Scrolls
- 168 Philanemo Mushrooms
- 46 Cleansing Hearts
- 420k Mora (the funny plant number)
Fun little fact for you: Lazurite is the main mineral in the gemstone lapis lazuli.
*Potential spoilers ahead* Varunada Lazurite and its various shard sizes are dropped by six different bosses. Three Weekly Boss fights drop Lazurite: Beneath the Dragon-Queller, Confront Stormterror, and Enter the Golden House. Since they’re Weekly Bosses, you can’t farm them over and over again – I just wanted to let you know that those fights give you a chance at getting some. For efficient farming, you’ll want to start farming the Hydro Hypostasis, Primo Geovishap, and Rhodeia of Loch – aka the Oceanid.
It’s clickin’ time
For farming purposes, you’ll be looking at a long and arduous grind against all the Hydro-based bosses of Genshin Impact. You’ll likely be looking at making a route between them and beating them over and over again. Theoretically, that would be the fastest way to farm up the sheer amount of gems you need – but there are a couple of alternatives to consider.
Here’s some good news first though. The Oceanid isn’t just a source of Varunada Lazurite, but also provides the Cleansing Hearts that you need for ascension. If you wanted to be more efficient in your farming, you could just fight that over and over again. This would provide not only the Cleansing Hearts, but it would also give you some Lazurite shards for each run. It takes a little longer since you’ll need to wait three minutes between each respawn, but the efficiency more than makes up for it.
Remember that you can use an Alchemy table to upgrade your gems to the next tier up as well. Three of the previous gem tier can be used to make one gem of the next tier up. These little upgrades will definitely save you some time. This goes for any other material with multiple tiers as well, so make use of it. You can also use Dust of Azoth to convert one gem piece into a different gem of the same tier.
Scrolls and shrooms
The Scrolls you’re after might be a bit more of an annoyance going forward. You’re going to be looking for groups of Hilichurls, and hunting the Samachurls within those groups. The Samachurls are the annoying little elemental staff-wielders, easy enough to kill, if not bothersome. Luckily, these guys are abundant throughout the world. Unfortunately, you’ll have to take on a whole group of Hilichurls each time, as Samachurls are rarely, if ever, alone. You can find these guys all over Teyvat and you can track their exact locations using this Teyvat Interactive Map as well. Bring along a friend while you’re at it, it’ll help you make quick work of the Hilichurls. Maybe you can also banter about slaughtering these creatures in their communities, you monster.
168 Philanemo Mushrooms sounds like a lot, I know. The good news is that they are easy enough to get, if not somewhat annoying and time-consuming. These are found all over residential areas of Mondstadt growing on houses and other buildings. Namely, you’ll be looking for these on and around buildings in Mondstadt, Springvale, and Dawn Winery. You can buy five from Chloris every three days for 1000 Mora each, and you can also grow these in your Serenitea Pot. Finally, finishing a certain dialogue branch with Michelle in Mondstadt will award you six whole mushrooms. Why was she just carrying six mushrooms? Who knows?
If your world is strapped for shrooms, consider joining a friend. Chances are they don’t need theirs. If they do… well, you could take them anyway if you’re fast enough. They just might ban you from their world afterward is all.
Your farming isn’t over yet and Barbara still requires more materials so you can level up her talents. Here’s what you’re looking for this time:
- 9 Teachings of Freedom
- 63 Guides to Freedom
- 114 Philosophies of Freedom
- 18 Divining Scrolls
- 66 Sealed Scrolls
- 93 Forbidden Curse Scrolls
- 18 Rings of Boreas
- 3 Crowns of Insight (one to max-level each Talent)
- 4,957,500 Mora – …yeah, I have nothing else to say but sorry
You read that right. You’ll need even more Handguards to get Barbara battle-ready (healing ready?) status. I should have set the expectation at the beginning of this guide, my bad.
Your Scroll stack haul comes out to 36 Divining Scrolls, 96 Sealed Scrolls, and 129 Forbidden Curse Scrolls. You may want to consider joining a friend or a stranger for this as well. May as well bring an ally along to
share the burden quicken the farming experience.
The Freedom talent books can be obtained from the Forsaken Rift Domain on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays. These can be upgraded in the same way as all of the previously listed materials at a ratio of three to one. The Alchemist’s Crafting Bench is your friend, people. Make use of it whenever and wherever possible!
Now for the “special” materials
I know that mentioning Rings of Boreas is technically a spoiler, but you’ll see this part of the story unfold pretty early on. Because of that, I’m just not going to count it as a spoiler – it’s still an epic fight regardless.
There are two ways to get Rings of Boreas. The first way to get them is by doing the Weekly Boss fight – Wolf of the North Challenge, and hoping for the best. The second way to get these Rings is actually just by beating that weekly boss fight anyway – then converting the alternative drops into Ringsof Boreas by using Dream Solvent. Those are really the only two ways to go about this, sorry if I mislead you. I would give you other solutions if I could, but I really can’t.
The last item you need is just a little bit harder to come across. Crowns – as you could probably guess from the name – are precious and hard to come by. Crowns of Insight are currently limited to two methods of obtainment, both of which take time. Both methods can be fairly slow in their own right, but one is more consistent than the other and is available at all times.
You can get Crowns of Insight by hitting certain level milestones with the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma and the Frostbearing Tree in Dragonspine. The only other way to get them is through certain limited-time in-game events. So be sure to keep up with Genshin events and keep those Crowns stocked up and available to avoid any problems in the future.
That’s it for your farming! Genshin Impact has endless opportunities to farm materials, and I can guarantee that Barbara won’t be the last time you have to do it. Hopefully, this guide speeds up the process for you though, and gives you a little headstart. Enjoy your new Barbara, and have fun literally never dying because she’s just that good of a healer.
