Diluc is the primary husbando in Genshin Impact and one of the strongest Pyro characters yet. Being a five-star character puts him at a slight disadvantage when it comes to wishing and upgrading constellations, but luckily Diluc is powerful enough on his own. The Traveler meets Diluc early on in the story and he plays a crucial role in the Mondstadt storyline, also being the owner of the Dawn Winery. Once a Knight of Favonius, Diluc has since moved on to protect Modstadt in his own way after the death of his father.
Diluc’s attacks and skills
Attack: Tempered Sword – Diluc is a claymore user, meaning that his attacks will be slower but more powerful. His basic attack is a four-hit chain and the charged attack has Diluc swinging his massive blade back and forth until he runs out of stamina.
Elemental Skill: Searing Onslaught – Diluc lunges forward with a slash of his claymore, dealing Pyro damage and setting the enemy ablaze. This skill can be used consecutively three times before going into cooldown, and if you wait too long between slashes, it will trigger the cooldown period.
Elemental Burst: Dawn – Releases intense flames to knock nearby enemies back, dealing Pyro damage. The flames then converge into the weapon, summoning a Phoenix that flies forward and deals massive Pyro damage to all enemies in its path. The Phoenix explodes upon reaching its destination, causing a large amount of AoE Pyro damage. The searing flames that run down his blade cause Diluc’s Normal and Charged Attacks to deal Pyro damage for a short time.
Diluc’s passive Talents
Relentless: Ascension 1 – Diluc’s Charged Attack Stamina Cost is decreased by 50%, and its duration is increased by 3 seconds.
Blessing of Phoenix: Ascension 4 – The Pyro Enchantment provided by Dawn lasts for 4 seconds longer. Additionally, Diluc gains a 20% Pyro damage bonus during the duration of this effect.
Tradition of the Dawn Night: Refunds 15% of the ores used when crafting Claymore-type weapons.
C1: Conviction – Diluc deals 15% more damage to enemies whose HP is above 50%.
C2: Searing Ember- When Diluc takes damage, his base attack increases by 10%, and his attack speed increases by 5%. Lasts for 10 seconds. This effect can stack up to 3 times and can only occur once every 1.5s.
C3: Steel and Fire – Increases the level of Searing Onslaught by 3. The maximum upgrade level is 15.
C4: Flowing Flame- Casting Searing Onslaught in sequence greatly increases damage dealt. Within 2 seconds of using Searing Onslaught, casting the next Searing Onslaught in the combo deals 40% additional damage. This effect lasts for the next 2 seconds.
C5: Phoenix, Harbinger of Dawn – Increases the level of Dawn by 3. The maximum upgrade level is 15.
C6: Flaming Sword, Nemesis of Dark – After casting Searing Onslaught, the next 2 Normal Attacks within the next 6 seconds will have their damage and attack increased by 30%. Additionally, Searing Onslaught will not interrupt the Normal Attack combo.
Diluc artifacts & builds
Diluc has been a staple DPS in Genshin Impact since launch, but one of his main hindrances is his rarity when wishing. Regardless of that, when built correctly, Diluc can be just as powerful as a 4-star character with constellations.
The claymore that you use for Diluc is non-negotiable because when paired with other characters that weaken enemies, Wolf’s Gravestone is uncontested. Wolf’s Gravestone increases the users’ attack by anywhere from 20-40%. When an enemy with less than 30% health is hit, all party member’s base attack is increased by 40-80% for 12 seconds. Even though this only occurs every 30 seconds, using abilities that group enemies together means that a normal hit combined with Searing Onslaught will deal boosted damage.
Crimson Witch of Flames is an ideal artifact set to obtain, especially at the four-set bonus, but you can also use Gladiator’s Finale as a way to boost Diluc’s base damage early on. Crimson Witch of flames offers a 15% increase to Pyro damage with the two-set bonus, and at the four-set, it increases Overload and Burning damage by 40%, increases Vaporize and Melt damage by 15%, and using an elemental skill increase the two-set bonus by 50% for 10 seconds. The four-set bonus incentivizes running an Electro character to inflict Overload which is one of my favorite elemental reactions due to its explosive nature and the stun effect it creates. Gladiator’s Finale offers a basic 18% increase to attack damage with the two-set bonus and the four-set bonus increases the normal attack damage of a claymore, sword, or polearm user by 35%. You can see why Wolf’s Gravestone fills this area of boosting attack damage and allowing Crimson Witch of Flames to turn Diluc into a fiery demon on the battlefield.
Diluc has been a staple in Genshin Impact for a very long time, rightfully earning his place as an S-tier damage dealer. Diluc, Beidou, and Bennet work extremely well together, and when paired with someone like Venti or Jean, your team will have high survivability and otherworldly damage output.
