How to play Mona in Genshin Impact

Mona is a mysterious astrologist that the Traveler comes across during their journey in Genshin Impact. She is unique in many aspects and can traverse the map faster than any other character currently available. Mona is a five-star Hydro character that utilizes a catalyst and acts as elemental damage support.

Mona’s Attacks and Skills

Attack: Ripple of Fate –  Mona has a typical catalyst 4-burst attack that will deal hydro damage to an enemy. When charged up, Ripple of Fate will deal Hydro damage in a small area of effect and the same goes with a plunging attack. Mona’s normal attack is a consistent and cost-effective method for applying the wet effect and triggering elemental reactions.

Elemental Skill: Reflection of Doom – Mona creates an illusory Phantom of Fate from coalesced waterspouts. The Phantom continuously aggros enemies and deals Hydro damage to them, and eventually explodes, dealing AoE Hydro damage when its duration expires.

Elemental Burst: Stellaris Phantasm –   Mona summons the sparkling waves and creates a reflection of the starry sky, applying the Illusory Bubble status to opponents in a large AoE. The Illusory Bubble traps opponents inside a pocket of destiny and also makes them Wet. It also renders weaker opponents immobile, and when an opponent is affected by Illusory Bubble after it pops, they sustain damage, and Omen is applied. Omen makes the enemy take extra damage for its duration, and the key to scaling up its damage is by grouping enemies together before use.

Mona’s Passive Talents

Illusory Torrent: Mona cloaks herself within the water’s flow, consuming Stamina to move rapidly. When under the effect of Illusory Torrent, Mona can move at high speed on the water. Applies the Wet status to nearby enemies when she reappears.

Come ‘n’ Get Me, Hag!: Ascension 1  – After she has used Illusory Torrent for 2 seconds, if there are any enemies nearby, Mona will automatically create a Phantom. A Phantom created in this manner lasts for 2 seconds, and its explosion damage is equal to 50% of Mirror Reflection of Doom.

Waterborne Destiny: Ascension 4 – Increases Mona’s Hydro damage bonus by a degree equivalent to 20% of her Energy Recharge rate.

Principium of Astrology: When Mona crafts Weapon Ascension Materials, she has a 25% chance to refund a portion of the crafting materials used.

Mona Artifacts & Builds in Genshin Impact

Being a pseudo damage mage in Genshin Impact, Mona relies on her elemental skills to deal out some hurt. Catalyst weapons are nowhere near as diverse as most would like, especially for dealing damage, but the true power of your build will come from artifacts. Noblesse Oblige is a must-have for Mona since the two-set bonus provides a 20% bonus to Elemental Burst damage.

Start by acquiring two pieces of Wanderer’s Troupe which will increase Mona’s Elemental Mastery by 80. Increased Elemental Mastery will make her elemental reactions like Vaporize or Electro-Charged. The Heart of Depth artifact can take some time to acquire, but the two-set bonus increases Hydro damage by 15%.

The two best catalysts to use are Skyward Atlas for increased damage or Favonius Codex for a shortened recharge rate. Skyward Atlas increases Elemental Damage by 12-24% and normal attack hits have a 50% chance to earn the favor of the clouds, which actively seeks out nearby enemies to attack for 15 seconds, dealing 160-320% attack damage. The Favonius Codex gives all critical hits a 60-100% chance to generate an Elemental Orb which will regenerate six energy for Mona. You can build Mona as a half-decent support build that provides the wet status for other characters that have higher damage potentials and consistent elemental reaction potential.

Mona fills a unique role as a hybrid between support and damage dealer depending on the elemental reactions she can create and the consistency at which she can use her abilities. Mona was initially considered to be solely a support character, but with specific builds, she can fill numerous needs in a roster.
