Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes recently released Omicron ability materials for end-game players. This new ability material adds another tier to a handful of characters and is only usable in the specific game mode stated in its ability’s description. In this quick guide, we check out how to use Omicron ability materials in SWGOH.
Omicron ability overview
Omicron is a new ability tier for characters in SWGOH. It costs 20 Omicron ability materials to upgrade to the new tier, and only a handful of characters can be upgraded. These abilities can only be used in some game modes, like Territory War, Galactic Conquest, and Grand Arena Championships. Omicron tier abilities are also ranked above Zeta tiers in the ability progression menu.
Characters with Omicron abilities:
- Boba Fett, Scion of Jango
- Dash Rendar
- Rose Tico
- Captain Phasma
- Rebel Officer Leia Organa
- Darth Sidious
- Qui-Gon Jinn
- Zam Wesell
- Chief Chirpa
- Chief Nebit
- Imperial Probe Droid
- Hera Syndulla
How to earn Omicron ability materials
SWGOH players can earn Omicron ability materials through bundles or by playing through the game. If you’re taking the free-to-play (FTP) route, you can earn Omicron ability materials through Galactic Challenge Events, Daily Login Calendars, Weekly Shipments, and Cantina Battles: 8-C, 8-F, 8-G. Cantina Battles have a painfully low ability material drop rate, so it’s best to save your crystals for a smarter purchase rather than refreshes.
Are Omicron abilities strong?
SWGOH players can expect to dominate the holotables with Omicron tier abilities. The list of confirmed Omicron compatible characters shows that SWGOH developer Capital Games are deliberately beefing up weaker characters to make them relevant again. Newly released characters should have an Omicron ability, and Capital Games is looking to give Omicron updates to two older characters with every update.
Our advice: be patient with upgrading your character or waiting for the right upgrade. There’s nothing worse than wasting end-game gear, Relic levels, and Zeta materials on the wrong characters. Make sure you’re investing into the characters that fit your roster and squad, and keep track of the meta as it shifts with the addition of Omicron Boba Fett, Scion of Jango is looking like a Galactic Legend equivalent in Territory Wars. Captain Phasma can take a ragtag team of First Order allies and destroy a Darth Revan squad. Rose Tico is now better than useless. Who knows where Capital Games will take Ewoks, Jawas, Phoenix Squadron, and all the other neglected factions and characters. It’s an exciting time to be a SWGOH player!
