RuneScape is a game that made a lot of kids’ childhoods, including my own! And for that reason, today I will be showing you guys my ultimate guide to making money in RuneScape, both Rs3 and Old School, for nostalgic players like myself.
ED3 runs in the Shadow Reefs (Daemonheim)
Elite dungeons 3 is a great money maker if you have the right stats for it. The Shadow Reef monsters tend to drop relics ranging from common (5k – alch price) to uncommon (25k – alch price) and even rare (1m – alch price). They also drop rune salvages, which usually go for about 35k each, considering they are always in high demand, as they are used in the invention skill.
Occasionally, mobs in this dungeon will drop a stack of Onyx Dust, which is worth around 11k, and can, later on, be transmuted into an Uncut Onyx, through the Divination skill.
Lastly, killing the Swordy McSwordFace, a.k.a. the first boss, will always award you with a great stack of cannonballs, each ranging from 50 to 70. These tend to be worth between 24k and 34k. And, on very rare occasions, you will get the boss’ sword, which is worth a total of 13m. If that isn’t enough to convince you, I don’t know what would be.
The ED3 method will not only grant huge amounts of EXP but also around 5m per hour, if not more. Though I warn you, this method is best for high-level players.
Let’s start with Rs3, since this is very likely the version of the game that allows you to make the most money per hour.
- Killing chickens
I know how it sounds, but just hear me out. First of all, this is a new player method, as the money provided is great for new players, but not so much for high-level players.
This method of making money in RuneScape is as easy as it gets since chickens are very easily to kill and you can do it right from LVL 1. Killing chickens will provide good EXP for new players, but I get that you came here for the money, so I will show you how to make money with chickens.
First of all, you will want to head over to Lumbridge. Once there, it is time to kill all the chickens in the chicken coop. Pick up the raw chicken meat and store all of it in the local bank. That is pretty much it. Sounds too simple to be true, right? Well, I assure you there are no tricks here and I’ll have you know that one inventory full of raw chicken is worth 25k. If you keep grinding this method, within one hour you will be able to make 1m, give or take.
- Solving hard Clue Scrolls
This is a money-maker with some stat requirements and item requirements. but still pretty accessible. The way you efficiently collect the clue scrolls is by killing Hellhounds in the Taverley dungeon.
The drop rate of the scrolls is 1/64, so I recommend that you commit to grinding and stack a good amount of Clue Scrolls. Once you have got a whole bunch, solve them all at once. The rewards per Hard Clue Scroll range from 85k to 1.1b, if you are lucky enough to get a dye, a.k.a. the best possible drop. Dye or no dye, opening a bunch of Scrolls is guaranteed to get you a good profit.
- Killing Spiritual Mages
This method is definitely not for new players. First of all, you need to be a LVL 86 Slayer. You will also need a Magic Notepaper to note the items, and either a Zaryte Bow or any piece of Torva, Pernix, or Virtus, since the Spiritual Mages are located in the Godwars dungeon. Why do you need these items? Well, if you are not wearing at least one of these, every creature in the dungeon will become aggressive towards you and, well, you really don’t want that, as you will be dead minutes after setting foot in the dungeon.
Once you do match all of this method’s requirements, making money in RuneScape should be an easy ride. The Spiritual Mages the following drop ratios:
- 12/128 chance of dropping any of the elemental Battle Staves, which have a price of 8k.
- 6/128 chance of dropping Rune Salvages, which have a price of 22k.
- 10/128 chance of dropping Air Orbs, which have a price of 10k.
- 14/128 chance of dropping Soul Runes, which have a price of 47k.
- 1/512 chance of dropping a stack of Ghostly Essence that has a price of 37k.
- 1/512 chance of dropping the Sirenic Scale, which is worth 460k.
Normally, you get around 4m per hour in profit, but what makes this money maker great is that all the drops are pretty common and the Mages are easy to kill with the Zaryte Bow.
Old School Runescape
Let’s move on to methods for making money in the Old School Runescape, where all the nostalgic players are. By my estimates, there are roughly a gazillion ways to make good money in Old School RuneScape, though unfortunately, most are in the members’ world.
- Mining Clay
Good news for new and experienced players alike: Clay equals a lot of money. Each Clay Ore is worth 175 gold, so a full inventory makes about 5k. If you keep at, you will make a decent amount of money. The more leveled your Mining, the more profit you will get per hour.
I do advise you to head over to the Southwest Varrock mine, as it is very close to the bank and you can spare a lot of time that you’d spend traveling elsewhere.
- Collecting Red Spider Eggs
This method is one of the best, which unfortunately also means it is highly contested. Each Red Spider Egg is worth around 650p, which can lead to a 220k profit per hour.
You will need at least 69 Combat to be able to collect Eggs without getting all the aggro on you. What I do is I gather a bunch of Stamina potions, since the distance from the bank to the Varrock Sewers is quite long, and then I get to grinding: collect, drink a potion, run to the bank to store the Eggs, and repeat. If you find a lot of people doing the same, it is best to change worlds. You should preferably migrate to one with a low number of active players.
- Mining Amethyst
This method is for members only and requires 92 mining, which is very demanding. Then again, the higher the requirement, the better the reward.
The place to mine Amethyst is in the members’ area, in the Mining Guild, where eight rocks spawn. It can take a good amount of time to fill up your inventory, depending on your level and Pickaxe, but since each Ore is 3.6k, you will get around 300k per hour.
And that’s it! These are my absolute best tips and methods for making money in RuneScape, both Old School and RS3. I know most of them are demanding and require a lot of grinding, but I have a feeling you were prepared to grind when you first started reading the article. Anyway, with your newfound fortune, you can either buy awesome items or use the in-game money to buy yourself a membership, which can ultimately be used to make even more money.
