Mewtwo & Mew-GX deck is Legendary | Pokemon TCG Online guide

Featuring the most versatile deck in the Standard meta

Of all the Mewtwo and Mew GX and EX variants that Pokemon TCG Online has released over the years, this is the card that has really managed to get the essence of the original Legendary duo. Mewtwo & Mew-GX is the most versatile card in the game due to its passive ability, and you can pair it with a number of Pokemon to make any type of deck you want.

Mewtwo & Mew-GX

How does the Mewtwo & Mew-GX deck work?

Every Mewtwo & Mew-GX deck in Pokemon TCG Online works the same. You have a bunch of other Pokemon in the deck that you discard as soon as you can, and then you use the ability to use any of their attacks whenever you want.

(Ability) Perfection: This Pokémon can use the attacks of any Pokémon-GX or Pokémon-EX on your Bench or in your discard pile. (You still need the necessary Energy to use each attack.)

Note that while you can steal GX attacks as well, you can still only use one per match as always.

Since this ability requires you to meet the Energy requirements of the Pokemon you’re stealing abilities from, the best Mewtwo & Mew-GX deck is naturally the one that revolves around the Type that has the best support cards in Pokemon TCG Online: Fire.

With Welder, Giant Hearth, and Fire Crystal being a big part of Standard, pairing Mewtwo with these cards and some Fire Pokemon makes for some pretty consistent decks.

Like the Pikarom deck, this deck is great in both Standard and Expanded. With cards like VS Seeker and Computer Search, it is even more consistent in Expanded.

20-win streak

In this guide, I’ll be taking you through both versions of the deck, although I’ll be focusing more on the Expanded version since it is better, and includes all cards from the Standard deck anyway.

Mewtwo & Mew-GX deck
Expanded deck list for Mewtwo & Mew-GX

You can make a lot of modifications to this deck. Tapu Lele-GX, Reshiram-GX, Salazzle-GX, Pidgeot-EX – the possibilities are endless. Here are the Pokemon I’ve found to be the most consistent with this deck.

Reshizard and Mega Alakazam-EX

Reshizard and Mega Alakazam

Zen Force and Outrage are both excellent 2-Energy attacks. Flare Strike is the one I aim for in each game, and opponents generally just quit once Reshizard gets going and you start throwing the 230s right from your second turn.

You will also find matches where you start with Reshizard on turn one, and it ends up winning the match without Mewtwo getting a chance to attack.

Gengar and Muk TAG TEAM cards

Gengar Tag Team and Alolan Muk Tag Team

Both of these cards have a GX attack that will help you buy turns. I rarely use their main attacks, other than in a few matches where poisoning the opponent was my only option.

Incineroar-GX and Charizard-GX

Incineroar-GX and Charizard-GX

Incineroar-GX is in this deck for his Crushing Punch, and Charizard-GX for his GX attack. Not many cards in Expanded can survive a 300-damage attack,

Supporters for Mewtwo & Mew-GX

Support cards for Mewtwo & Mew-GX deck

Volcanion is in the deck to accelerate Energy. Always go second if you win the toss; you do not want to miss out on Flare Starter.

Indeedee V and Jirachi-GX will sit on your Bench to help you with their passive abilities. Indeedee heals you for 20 damage each turn, and Jirachi negates Psychic weaknesses to help your Mewtwo last longer.

Drawing and attaching Fire Energy

Here’s the crazy Fire support I mentioned earlier. No other Type in Pokemon TCG Online gets this kind of support, and getting Welder on turn two is a huge boost. Giant Hearth is great as usual, but in this deck it can especially help you discard Pokemon from your hand.

Fetching the cards you want

Fetching more cards

You can replace Computer Search with Master Ball, as I generally use it just to fetch specific Pokemon.

Cherish Ball helps you find any GX card you want, and Ultra Ball will help you discard more cards while also searching for specific Pokemon.

Utility cards

Horror Energy and Supporter recycling

VS Seeker makes this deck super consistent. Being able to fetch Welders and Professor’s Research from your discard pile is invaluable.

Horror Energy helps you do 20 more damage, although it doesn’t apply to your attacks. Pokegear helps you fetch Supporters quickly.

Mewtwo & Mew-GX deck in Standard

Mewtwo & Mew-GX is pretty good in Standard, although it is definitely one tier below decks like Eternatus VMAX and Zacian/LucMetal.

Here’s the type of deck that has been doing well in Standard lately.

Player pipons66 almost won the recent E and D’s S2 Qualifier with it, and it regularly finds its way into the top 10.

But if you only play the online Pokemon TCG, building the Expanded deck is much better. It’s more reliable, and the format doesn’t have crazy decks like ADP/Z.
