The Sims 4 is fun enough alone, but you can always add to it to make it funner. It doesn’t matter how many expansion packs you buy, the clothes are hardly the ones you would wear IRL. On top of that, you’re limited to how much control you have over your sim. That’s where mods come into play.
Why use mods
Mods can turn The Sims 4 into an even more realistic experience. They can allow you to download the shoes, clothes, hairstyles, and more that you would use in real life. This means adding brands like Adidas and Nike to your shoes and wardrobe. It also means that you can have more realistic hairstyles that reflect what your actual hair looks like.
To use mods, you just have to download them and then put them into the mods folder within your The Sims 4 folder. After you get the mods into the correct folder, you just have to launch the game. The mods should be available in the game for you to use on your Sims.
Best mods for The Sims 4
There are a lot of mods out there for you to find, but I’ve come up with a list of some great ones.
Bunk beds can really help out if you build a compact home. They can also help if you don’t use money cheats and your house has to be small, but you have a larger family. The Discover University and Tiny Living Stuff DLCs would’ve been a perfect place for the game to give these to players. But for some reason, they decided not to. This mod is functional and you can even tuck tiny desks beneath your lofted bed. A prolific Sim stuff modder, Ravasheen, is the person behind this mod and many others.
If you have the Tiny Living Stuff DLC, you may be familiar with the fold-down Murphy beds. At times when you open them, they could kill your Sim. There’s a mod that can save you from that headache. The Murphy bed mod keeps your bed from killing your Sim and having to use a cheat to bring them back.
KawaiiStacie has come up with a mod that adds a bunch of rabbit hole actions to your game. This means activities that your Sims can do on their own, without you following them. With the explore mod, you can send your Sims adventuring just by clicking on them. Of course, they need to visit the DMV to get a license or a bus pass first. If you send them shopping, they will come home with new clothes. You can also send them to dance classes, local attractions, gambling spots, a part-time job, and more. Their skills and motives change based on the activity you choose. You can also tell your Sim to explore with another character.
If you want to eliminate idle conversations with your Sims, the Have Some Personality Please! mod will take care of that. Instead of aimlessly talking to each other, the Sims will have to choose to interact with each other. The interactions aren’t random, either. The mod will select them based on traits, moods, and existing relationships between the two Sims. This gives the Sims even more autonomy than they’ve ever had before. You can expect more kisses from love interests, and more punches from enemies.
There are other mods that can let you download more personality traits for your Sim. If you want to try out several traits at once, there’s a mod for that too. There is a mod that will let you add more than three traits at a time. All you need to do is type in a cheat code including the name of the desired trait to add it to your Sim. It’s all explained here.
The MC Command Center is a “mega-mod” that lets you tweak almost every aspect of your Sims’ lives. This gives you godlike control over your Sims and other Sims in their world. You can set employment rates for Sims of different ages, scan Sims to find out if they’re pregnant, and even blacklist certain clothing items. There are also a lot of automatic settings that let non-controlled Sims live full lives without you. They can even get married and have children on their own. If you only get one mod, this is the one to get.
Something you can’t do with the Create-a-Sim tool in The Sims 4 is to alter height. The height slider mod from GODJUL1 lets you adjust the height of your Sims. To use the mod, you open Create-a-Sim and click and drag their feet. This will stretch or shrink your Sims.
The Gender Preference mod lets you change your Sims preference for romantic partners. You can adjust the numbers to set your Sims to prefer one gender to the exclusion of the other. That means that you can make your Sim strictly heterosexual, bisexual, or strictly homosexual. This is a mod that can make your Sims truly reflect your gender preference.
Whatever you do with your Sims, mods can help you to make them as realistic as possible. You can have fun with them and make them into whoever you want them to be.
