Sylas is a fairly new League of Legends champion and unfortunately not many people bothered with him. At first a lot of players used him and experimented with his builds and runes, but most weren’t very successful. This is quite the shame, as he has a lot of potential. So now, we are going to show you just what he is capable of, when used right.
What items are in this build?
- Hextech Protobelt
- Zhonya’s Hourglass
- Sorcerer’s Shoes
- Morello Nomicon
- Rabadon’s Deathcap
Before we get any further, this is the build you should use if you plan on going full AP. If you are losing and getting wrecked in lane, then this is not right for you. Every build depends on the circumstances, so if you don’t take them into account you will be headed to a loss streak. Please spare your LP from that.
Which runes should you use?
Note the fact that most runes only have an effect when you achieve a takedown. Therefore, you need to prioritize this. If you don’t try to get the most out of these specific runes then this Sylas build will never work for you.
When should you use it?
The main thing you will need to do is initiate fights and attack. Because of this, you should use this aggressive build only if you are confident. This might require quite a lot of practice on your part, as Sylas’ mechanics can get really hard to perfect. This is especially true when it comes to his skillshots. You can take the time and learn everything in practice mode, but it would be best if you could do so with a friend, to test your skills against a moving target.
It’s also difficult because one of the greatest powers of Sylas is his passive, Petricite Burst. After each and every skill cast he will form chains around himself which damages nearby enemies. If you want to learn how to get the most out of this, then you will need to practice a lot.
This Sylas build is also a great idea if you play mid and want to switch things up and have a little fun. Frankly fun is mostly what you get with it, since it will not work to climb ranks, to be honest. Most full damage League of Legends builds don’t. Don’t let that discourage you from playing around with it though, because it does really work in some situations. You just need to know exactly when to bring it.
When to switch it up
The first instance in which you should never ever choose this build, is if you can’t accept defeat. This build is a bit hard to play, and can easily cost you the entire game if you don’t watch out. So, if you are a sore loser and want a sure way to climb the ranks, then avoid this Sylas build, or any build in general which tries to hit the max AP or AD a champion can have. These builds exist to have fun.
The second situation in which this build is a bad choice, is if the rest of your team is packing too much AP from champion select. In this case, all the fun will be lost because the enemy will just build magic resistance. It’s not worth it if you can’t use all that burst.
Oh, and if the enemy has too much mobility and you aren’t quite sure of your mechanics yet, then this Sylas build won’t work well either. They will just dodge everything you throw at them. You should check out his counters as well.
How to play as a Full AP Burst Sylas
First of all, let’s start with a simple adjective. Aggressive. You need to play aggressive. This is no time to act like a scaredy cat and pull back whenever the enemy laner decides to throw a spell at you. Instead, you need to re-wire your mentality. From now on, you can’t be like “I can’t lose too much HP, I need to stay in lane and farm”. It’s boring and can’t be sustained when going full AP. You have to go all in when you get the opportunity; if you can only take their flash, not their life, whatever. You will get them next time.
As soon as you decide to go with this Sylas build, you are no longer a player. You are a predator. Your job is to hunt people down. Hiding in bushes and singling people out are the best strategies you can go with. My favorite way to do this is by placing a pink ward right beside the bush next to a lane, and waiting. This way you can easily cash in a couple of kills. Just make sure you have enough burst first.
This build for Sylas is pretty hard to play, so if you want something just as fun but not as difficult, then check out the Unbeatable Rakan guide. It’s awesome to play around with even if you don’t like being a support as much.
