A deep story is not the only challenge Halo Infinite tries to tackle. Unlike previous games of the license, Halo Infinite will let players roam around freely. Just like the game’s name suggests, Halo Infinite will have a large universe to explore.

Halo Infinite is an ambitious project. The game was supposed to come out at the end of 2020, but like most things this year its release had to be postponed. Halo Infinite is now expected in Fall 2021.

Evil West  will be playable solo or in co-op with friends.

Developer: The Astronauts
Publisher: The Astronauts
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC

Witchfire is a dark fantasy FPS developed by The Astronauts. It is the second game of this studio, which previously worked on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, and is quite a departure from their previous title.

Aside from having very different aesthetic and gameplay, Witchfire seems to be as ambitious of a project as The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. It features a similar visual tech that renders real life environments into places you can visit in the game.

Team members of The Astronauts often publish blog posts, detailing the challenges they have to overcome, and the nitty gritty of developing Witchfire. It is a great insight into what it takes to make a game.

Back 4 Blood

Developer: Turtle Rock Studios
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Studios
Release Date: June 22, 2021
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC

Back 4 Blood is the spiritual descendant of the popular zombie FPS Left 4 Dead. Initially released in 2008 and with a sequel in 2009, Left 4 Dead left its mark in the gaming industry. Over 10 years after the first opus, the creators of Left 4 Dead are back with a new game: Back 4 Blood.

Back 4 Blood takes all the things we loved about Left 4 Dead, and boosts them with interesting new mechanics and -obviously – way better visuals. Both competitive and cooperative modes will be available.

Exomecha is a must-try for Michael Bay fans. It features mechas and explosions. Lots of mecha and explosions.

Exomecha seems to be all about delivering large scale, bombastic action. This new FPS from TwistedRed includes several PvP modes, including deathmatch and battle royale.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

Developer: GSC Game World
Publisher: GSC Game World
Release Date: TBA 2021
Platforms: Xbox Series S/X, PC

The first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game took place mostly in the vicinity of Chernobyl, 20 years after the accident. For this new episode, which acts as the direct sequel of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, GSC Game World have promised a horror FPS in an immersive open world.

The story is not linear, meaning that many of the player’s actions and choices will have consequences later in the game. There are multiple possible endings, to give players an incentive to take multiple runs through the game.

Far Cry 6

Developer: Ubisoft Toronto
Publisher: Ubisoft
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC

Giancarlo Esposito is back! After Gus Fring and Moff Gideon, the actor embodies another bad guy: Anton Castillo, also known as El Presidente. Far Cry 6 is set in the Caribbean, on a paradise island ruled by a dictator. Sound familiar?

Far Cry 6 - Official Reveal Trailer | Ubisoft Forward

In Far Cry 6, your role is to overthrow El Presidente to restore peace on your island of Yara. That includes lots of fights, explosions, and cool trips around a tropical open world.

Far Cry 6 has made it so hard for me to resist pre-ordering. They made the fiercest outfit for Chorizo, a Weiner dog who also happens to be a Fang for Hire.

Overwatch 2

Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC

During BlizzCon 2019, Blizzard announced the heavily anticipated sequel of the genre-defining hero shooter Overwatch. Unfortunately, over a year later, there is little to no information regarding Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 Gameplay Trailer

The only things we know so far are that Overwatch 2 is geared towards PvE content, just like the seasonal missions in Overwatch. The game should also bring back popular Overwatch heroes, and add new ones. We will probably get more information about Overwatch 2 in February, during the 2021 BlizzConline.

Lemnis Gate

Developer: Ratloop Games Canada
Publisher: Frontier Foundry
Release Date: TBA 2021
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Lemnis Gate aims to deliver more than just another basic shooter. This FPS mixes time-warping and turn-based combat strategy for a new kind of experience.

Lemnis Gate - Announcement Trailer | PS4

Each fight in Lemnis Gate is divided into 5 rounds. Each round lasts 25 seconds, and then the time resets and you start all over again. A lot can happen in two minutes, and victory in Lemnis Gate seems to be more a matter of strategy than aim.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin

Developer: KillPixel
Publisher: 1C Publishing EU
Release Date: Feb.25, 2021
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is not like the other FPS games on this list. Instead of using the latest version of popular game engines like UE or Unity, WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is running on a modified version of the ol’ Quake engine. And if that didn’t bring back enough memories, also know that the developers of WRATH: Aeon of Ruin are also the ones behind Duke Nukem 3D, Prey, and Max Payne. Yes, this is an old-school FPS with some modern twists.

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin originally released in early access in 2019, and is finally getting a full release this year.

Which one of these 11 FPS coming out in 2021 got your attention? Did we forget something big? Let us know in the comments!
