Valheim is an open-world survival game and it’s an absolute masterpiece in my opinion. The early access came out on February 2, and succeeded despite its basic graphics and thanks to its well designed gameplay. But if you’re here, you already know that and are looking for games like Valheim to play on mobile, so let’s get to it.
Frostborn: Co-op Survival
First up on this list of games like Valheim to play on mobile is Frostborn: Co-op Survival. This is by far the most similar game to Valheim, and incidentally also has better graphics. Frostborn is a Viking-themed game in which you build a capital city and set sail towards unknown lands, much like Valheim, albeit on a different scale.
Countless undead creatures roam Midgard and you and your friends have to send them back to Helheim. But the dead aren’t the only threat, as other players will attack your base from time to time. This game will let you choose whether you want to play alone or with friends. I played with three other friends and definitely prefer it that way.
Frostborn allows you to create your base and your friends’ bases will be connected to yours, so you can move between bases or even join your bases into one. My friends and I created what is in my humble opinion a masterpiece of a base, and we’re pretty proud of it! I need to emphasize this again: this game is more fun with friends, hence “co-op” literally being part of the name.
There is a class system in Frostborn, and it features over a dozen classes. But these aren’t fixed, as you can change any time you want. Just be sure you have the right gear and weaponry for the class you wish to play as.
You’ll also get to practice your trading skills by trading items with other players. You’ll establish commercial relationships or even war alliances to help you move up in the world.
Stormfall: Saga of Survival
Stormfall: Saga of Survival is a survival game that’s pretty similar to Valheim. In Stormfall your character is out in the middle of nowhere and has to survive by using whatever resources they can get their hands on. You’ll get to explore the open world, build your own shelter, find resources, and kill some very annoying NPCs. Starvation and thirst are something you’ll always need to pay attention to, as a starving character will begin to lose HP.
Later on you are also able to delve into dangerous dungeons and ruins in order to get valuable items and collectibles. And one more thing: you get to learn and use magic!
Ark: Survival Evolved
Ark: Survival Evolved is a very interesting game, but not for the reasons you might expect. Much like in Valheim, it allows you to build some cool bases and strongholds, and fight off nasty bandits and other opponents. However – and this is my favorite part – in Ark you can also tame dinosaurs!
I know it’s not Viking-themed like Valheim, but most other elements of the game are present and well, let’s just face the fact: killing Valheim bosses would be a lot more fun if you had a big ass T-Rex or a Utahraptor at your side. Heck, they’d make a nice snack out of Valheim’s first boss, Eikthyr!
You’ll start off the game on a mysterious island with nothing to help you get by. You’ll have to gather food and resources just to help you survive the first few days, and then venture further into the island to actually start improving your situation.
You can play Ark: Survival Evolved solo, or you can join a tribe of other players and survive together.
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition
When Don’t Starve Together first came out, I was obsessed! It became a popular game really fast, much like Valheim, and for good reason too. Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition is the exact same game, but on mobile.
The world is a big and dangerous place, full of enemies just waiting to get their hands on you. And let’s not forget that the night will literally kill you. Every day, you will have to find resources and develop your base, so that at night you can hide inside your fortress walls and wait out the darkness.
Don’t ever forget to have a fireplace nearby, and watch out for the shadowy hands that will try to steal your flame.
The world was destroyed by the Gods and now there is only a handful of survivors, and guess what, you are one of them. Exile Survival is survival game in which you get to build your own customized class, with loads of unique skills, so you can venture out into the world and survive as best you can.
You get to explore desert wastelands and ancient cities that are now just piles of ruins, and fight your way through dungeons, to get cool items you can later on use to make armor, weapons, and other useful items.
Building your base is also a priority in the game, as you won’t survive for long without one. Building in this game is very easy and allows for creativity, so you can do more than just put up 4 walls and a roof.
Are there any survival games similar to Valheim that I missed? Let me know in the comments!
