June is almost at its end and it’s time to announce the best games coming out in July 2020! Last month we had The Last of Us II, The Outer Worlds, Disintegration and so many other amazing games, and I can tell you that July has some big stuff coming out as well.
Trackmania
First up on the list is Trackmania, which is coming out on July 1. For those of you who don’t know, Trackmania is a series of racing games that was first released back in 2003 and is now getting a remake version.
This series isn’t your typical racing game in which you would race across different tracks. Instead, the players create their own tracks, using a sort of building block process. I am not much of a racing game fan, but being able to create my own racing tracks does make me curious to try it out.
Elden: Path of the Forgotten
Elden: Path of the Forgotten is on my personal Steam wishlist for a number of reasons. This medieval RPG game was inspired by Eldritch Horror, a.k.a. one of my favorite strategy board games, and takes strategy games to a whole new level.
I mean, the game has a very non-traditional gameplay, players having to fight based on reaction, rather than action. You won’t win battles with a “the best defense is a strong offense” way of thinking. You’ll have to balance your position and stamina, while you wait for the best time to strike at enemies.
Elden: Path of the Forgotten comes out on July 9, for both PC and Nintendo Switch.
Crosscode
Crosscode is a retro-inspired action RPG set in a very distant future, with loads of puzzles, mysteries, and fast-paced battles. Players take control of Lea, a mute character who plays a fictional MMORPG known as CrossWorlds.
This game originally came out in 2018 for PC, macOS and Linux, and is set to be release for PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on July 9 2020.
Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise
If you have read even just a few of my other articles, you’d already know I am a huge horror games fan. For that reason, I am incredibly excited about the release of the Deadly Premonition sequel: A Blessing in Disguise.
Deadly Premonition is an open-world survival horror game, and this sequel is set in Boston. The story is focused on Aaliyah Davis, an FBI agent who decides to reopen an old investigation.
2020 Formula 1
The 2020 version of F1 is finally coming out. It’s the 13th title of the Formula 1 series and it is set to be released on July 10 2020 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and even Stadia. This new game features twenty-two circuits, twenty different drivers and ten teams present in the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship.
Even though the real-life championship was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the game will feature the championship as it was originally meant to be run!
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris
My fellow anime lovers, I have good news for you: we are getting a new Sword Art Online game on July 9 and you can already pre-purchase it.
In Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, we’re going to play as the mighty Kirito and venture into the Underworld, the virtual world of the anime’s Alicization Arc. There will be lots of intense battles, awesome visuals and a big world to explore. This is one of the games I’m personally most excited to play, as I am a huge fan of the anime.
Ghost of Tsushima
I have been waiting for this game for a while now, and I’m so close to being able to play it – it comes out on July 17. Ghost of Tsushima is an action/adventure game based in an open world. Players get to take on the role of Jin Sakai, one of the last samurai on Tsushima island. The action takes place in the past, when the Mongols first invaded Japan.
I’m quite interested in World History, so I am pretty thrilled for this game. Plus, much like other games I like – namely Dishonored and Spliter Cell: Chaos Theory -- Ghost of Tsushima is a stealth game. Or at least players have the option to play it that way, but the bloodthirsty path – where we kill everyone in sight – is certainly on the table.
There’s a lot of cool stuff to find and do in this game, and the story looks quite amazing too.
Rocket Arena
Rocket Arena is an online third-person shooter game to be released on July 14. This game has a very Fortnite-esque asthetic and gives off a similar cartoony vibe, but it is in fact a 3v3 arena shooter. The weapons and hero abilities are all focused around rocket mechanics with unique twists, and it looks pretty awesome.
That’s the list for July! Thanks for reading, and stay tuned to SQUAD for more monthly upcoming game release lists – we’ll have one out for August soon!
