We’re revving up for a new and exciting year by going over some of the most anticipated action and adventure games coming to Xbox in 2021. Off the heels of the console generation, there are plenty of titles to look forward to on the Xbox Series X/S.
While release schedules often change, here are eight great action and adventure games currently set to release on Xbox in 2021.
Hitman 3 (Jan. 21)
Rounding out the World of Assassination trilogy, Hitman 3 will release in early 2021. IO Interactive has set a precedence of delivering open sandbox levels to explore as Agent 47. The game will feature brand new locales including Dubai, Dartmoor and Chongqing. Additionally, anyone purchasing Hitman 3 will get all Hitman and Hitman 2 content as well.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition (Spring)
The Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is one I am personally anticipating. This collection includes all the content from the original Mass Effect trilogy. However, it appears as though there will not be any multiplayer included. BioWare has said that the studio has tried to modernize the gameplay experience, with a lot of focus on the first game. It will be a great experience to be reacquainted with the N7 crew.
Halo Infinite (November)
While Halo Infinite was unfortunately delayed from November 2020, it is now set to release in November 2021. It’s been quite some time since we last caught up with Master Chief. 343 Studios is promising a larger, more open world for players to explore while combating the Covenant. Additionally, Halo Infinite will come with a free-to-play multiplayer component.
This is Xbox’s big chance to make a splash with Halo after the lukewarm reception of Halo 5. The studio is ambitiously chasing the idea of ongoing post-launch content, as Halo Infinite will be treated as a soft-reboot that will expand over time.
Far Cry 6 (TBD)
Ubisoft Toronto’s Far Cry 6 takes us to a fictional Caribbean island Yara under the thumb of dictator Antón Castillo. The game sees Giancarlo Esposito take on the role of Castillo in what can only be presumed will be a haunting performance. Players will disassemble Castillo’s presence as Dani Rojas, a local guerrilla fighter. Of course, a sprawling world to explore is expected with plenty of side characters to meet and missions to complete along the way.
Far Cry 6 was originally planned to release on Feb. 18, but development was impacted by COVID-19, hence the delay.
Hogwarts Legacy (TBD)
Set in the 1800s within the Wizarding World, Hogwarts Legacy has gotten a lot of people talking. Showing the early days of the iconic Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Avalanche Studios’ game enables players to hit the books and explore the campus. From the trailer we can see that players will use a plethora of spells to complete puzzles and face off against many fantastic beasts.
Hogwarts Legacy is expected to launch sometime in 2021.
Resident Evil Village (TBD)
The tenth core installment in the Resident Evil franchise is nearly upon us. Picking up years after the events of Resident Evil 7, Village appears to continue the story of Ethan Winters after meeting Chris Redfield. Based on the footage shown, Village takes place in the snowy European mountains.
While the undead will naturally play an important role in Ethan’s journey, we’ve caught glimpses of werewolves, witches, and other supernatural villains to confront.
Gotham Knights (TBD)
In a bold attempt to set itself apart from the Arkham franchise, WB Games Montreal is setting Gotham Knights in a world where Batman is dead. To save the streets of Gotham, the Bat-Family step in to take care of the criminals. Players will play cooperatively as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Red Hood. Each character will have their own playstyle and progression. Mr. Freeze and other members of Gotham’s rogue gallery are also featured.
Dying Light 2 (TBD)
Techland’s anticipated sequel to 2015’s Dying Light sets us 15 years after the events of the first game. Players will make use of a bevy of weapons – including the grappling hook – to face off against a new horde of zombies. Parkouring through new environments, Dying Light 2 sees the return of the day and night cycle which affects the zombies’ behaviour. Choices made by players can heavily impact the story and the world around them.
There you have it, eight great action and adventure games coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2021. Let us know which games you’re looking forward to in the new year in the comments!
