SQUAD’s Most Anticipated Games of 2020

After our self-indulgent personal favorites list for 2019, we are giving ourselves a second New Year’s gift. We compiled a list of  some of the most exciting (to us, at least) games coming out next year. These are the games we cant wait to play, and likely write about: SQUAD’s Most Anticipated Games of 2020!

Andrew: Fortunately, 2020 will fill the void that Control left after the credits rolled. Being a massive fan of Remedy Entertainment means that Alan Wake is close to my heart. The studio is set to release DLC story expansions for Control next year. If the Easter Eggs and promotional art are anything to go by, Alan Wake fans might be in for a big surprise when the “AWE” DLC launches in mid-2020. What if Alan Wake is an altered world event that Jesse has to deal with? Thinking about the possible connections between the two games excites me the most about next year.

Titus: I’m not entirely sure what to look forward to in 2020. There is plenty coming out for all of the major platforms. The Last of Us 2, Animal Crossing New Horizons, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, to name a few. 2020 will also see the launch of the next generation of both the PlayStation and Xbox, which means a lot of new titles made specifically for the new platforms.

However, oddly enough I think the game I am most looking forward to is SpongeBob SquarePants Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. The original Nickelodeon platformer from 2003 is basically my favorite game of all time. Can you blame me for being excited for a remake?

Kevin: My most anticipated games of 2020 would have to be Persona 5 The Royal or Watch Dogs Legion. I am leaning more towards P5R for sure. Still, I loved Watch Dogs 2 and I’ve been excited for Legion since the announcement. I will be pre-ordering the Phantom Thief edition of P5R, and you’ll all be hearing about both games for sure!

Asen: My most anticipated games of 2020 are not really new games. I am entirely too excited for updates and DLCs for my current favorite games, actually. Versus is a new game mode for Vermintide 2 which focuses on PvP gameplay. Two 4-players teams of human players face off, one playing a regular Vermintide mission. The other embodies various Skaven and Chaos specials lying in ambush.

I also can’t wait for the massive Paladins overhaul coming in January. Evil Mojo is tweaking everything in the game, from core mechanics to quality of life features. All champions will be slightly updated to tune up their kits and bridge the power gap. Honestly, just making Koga playable makes this an important update. Most of all, I am just excited to stop automatically buying Cauterize every match.
