Acer launches into Cloud Gaming with the new Acer Chromebook 516 GE

The Acer Chromebook 516 GE is Acer’s first Chromebook made for Cloud Gaming – giving players the best of both worlds.

The Acer Chromebook 516 GE is designed with everything needed to enjoy cloud gaming – from a high-quality display to the RGB keyboard. Here’s a quick rundown of what this Gamer-book is packing:

  • 16″ 2560×1600 display with 120Hz refresh rate for high FPS gameplay
  • High performance tailored towards NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW game-streaming service as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming and more
  • An RGB keyboard w/ anti-ghosting capabilities
  • DTS audio to add that splash of immersion to your gameplay
  • 12th Gen Intel Core i5-1240P processor, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB NVMe SSD
  • Support for Gigabit Ethernet as well as fast and reliable Wi-Fi 6E

Chromebooks in the past have locked down their position as a go-to tool for education, work, and productivity. Running Chrome OS, Chromebooks are known for being snappy and simple. With Cloud Gaming in a hot position, it makes sense to apply those attributes to the gaming scene. Google and Acer also make it easy to get into Cloud Gaming – offering a three-month trial of GeForce NOW’s highest tier along with Amazon Luna. It also helps that Chromebooks are usually quite lightweight which goes in stark contrast to traditional gaming laptops. No more lugging around 12lbs of gaming prowess, these Chromebooks are a third of the weight.

Features and connectivity

It’s worth a mention that these laptops support up to the highest tier of NVIDIA GeForce NOW. This allows them to tap into high framerates with beautiful picture quality while supporting features like ray tracing. This Chromebook also features an RGB keyboard for those that feel their gaming experience isn’t complete without it – with nine hours of battery life to keep your keyboard shining bright.

Connectivity-wise you’re looking at Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6E functionality to help support your game-streaming experience. The Chromebook also comes with regular USB connectivity, dual USB-C ports, HDMI, and Bluetooth 5.2 for your wireless accessories. Users will have access to their PC and console games in the cloud with the simple tap of a button. The Everything Button lets you simply tap, search and stream games to your Chromebook – with more games and bundles coming in over time.

The Acer Chromebook 516 GE is an excellent choice for those on the go or anyone who can’t quite commit to a full-fledged PC gaming setup. If you’re not looking for a gaming laptop with all the fancy bells and whistles, a laptop meant specifically for Cloud Gaming may be the way to go.
