As social media and just about every news outlet out there has already informed you, congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just had her her Twitch debut playing Among Us. AOC hit over 400k concurrent viewers, blasting past a number of records set by Twitch giants in the past.
To put it into perspective, that’s higher than both Dr Disrespect and Tyler1’s return streams – which were themselves huge in regards to single-streamer events. At her peak, AOC – who was accompanied by congresswoman Ilhan Omar, and popular streamers Pokimane, DisguisedToast and JackSepticEye – hit about 439,000 Twitch viewers.
Now, having viewership numbers that high is kind of insane on it’s own. Most of the time those kinds of numbers are seen during huge virtual events during which viewership hits the millions. But when it comes to single streams, the records belong to people like Ninja or Shroud. That being said, those guys are highly skilled and have amassed their following over time. Plus, Ninja’s record of 600k+ viewers wasn’t even really a personal win. He was on stream with Drake, Travis Scott and Juju Smith-Schuster, so I don’t really count it
AOC is no stranger to gaming, and is an active League of Legends player. But as a first time streamer, it’s more than a little nuts to hit over 400k concurrent viewers. This is a good thing too, since the stream was done in part to encourage viewers to vote on Nov. 3. You can’t get someone ejected into the cold void of space unless you cast your vote, after all.
