Tickets to the first annual Canadian Game Awards are now available. A celebration of the Canadian video game industry, the event will take place in Toronto at the TIFF Bell LightBox on Apr. 9. The awards want to engage fans while also being “by the industry, for the industry.”
The night will feature a diverse range of awards. Canadian games and their developers will all be recognized for categories like best narrative, game design and performance. Furthermore, Canadian esports and online gaming content will be acknowledged. Finally, gamers will get to have a say in the two of the night’s biggest winners. Fan choice awards will be given out to the best Canadian and international games.
Showcasing the best Canada has to offer
The event is created by leading Canadian esports organization Northern Arena. Northern Arena will produce the awards alongside devs and industry leaders to showcase the best Canada has to offer to the world.
“Canadians have a lot to celebrate when it comes to the gaming industry,” said Carl-Edwin Michel, founder and CEO of Northern Arena. “I’m excited to bring the community together to shine a spotlight on the people that make it great.”
The Entertainment Software Association of Canada has given its support to the awards. The ESAC acts as a national voice for games industry and works with game developers such as Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony.
“These awards are an exciting way to showcase what our industry has known for years,” said ESAC President & CEO Jayson Hilchie. “Canada is the best place in the world to make video games.”
The XP Game Developer Summit will also be a part of the awards festivities. Over 30 speakers from game development studios will be present between Apr. 7 and 8. The conference will focus on supporting career growth in the gaming field.
