In a recent poll taken by community channel DBDLeaks on Twitter over 13,000 people voted for which horror license they most want to see added to the Dead by Daylight roster. Coming out on top was Five Nights at Freddy’s. The FNAF franchise appears to be what most Dead by Daylight players wanted added to the game, and by a decent margin too.
FNAF squeaked in over Friday the 13th by just under 2%. Milky results aside, it beat over 40 other franchises for the top spot. Some of these included horror genre staples like Child’s Play, The Shining, and It.
Final results of our poll. Thanks to everyone who participated.
What was it for? To check, what community truly wants to see in DBD, since developers haven't shared results of official poll. Hopefully some of these will make it to the game.#DeadbyDaylight #dbd pic.twitter.com/jydmbG1UDk

As you can tell by my unfiltered derision… I really wish anything else took the top spot. That being said, this was only part one of the polling. Part two is where the tournament began, pitting the remaining 32 franchises against each other. This continued until the final round, where it came down to Friday the 13th and Alien. Ultimately, Friday the 13th won out – showing that a dedicated fanbase and legal limbo can’t keep the dream down.
License lost, license gained, license looming
In case you don’t remember, we just recently gained the Hellraiser license while subsequently losing Stranger Things shortly thereafter. It seems BHVR would be in a prime position to seek out a new license for the roster soon. Why not at least attempt to bring Jason into the mix? It’s not like another studio has tried to game-ify Friday the 13th recently, to enjoyable but disastrous results… Yes, yes, I wish we still had that game too. But it’s been over a year since we lost it, and I think it’s high time we try again.
For now, I want to talk about the FNAF result from round one. I don’t mean in a therapy-style, inner healing and exploration sort of way. I mean in an opinionated, judgemental sort of way. My whole brand, really.
What Behaviour could do instead
Since we just got a new killer, wouldn’t it make sense to add a couple of new survivors? I mean you guys didn’t want Scooby-Doo. SCOOBY-DOO?? And if we were to get new killers, why exactly a bunch of animatronics? I get it guys, the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise is popping off again because of the release of Security Breach. I enjoyed the lore just as much as the next person, but I’m still on the fence about the whole FNAF x Dead by Daylight fanfic you, the community, are spinning here.
Would it be kind of cool? Yes, I think Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria could make for a cool locale. The animatronics would be interesting killers as well, but you know what you could do instead? You could just actually play Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, and support the franchise while you do it.
We’ve ignored horror icons like the Alien, The Grudge, and Candyman in order to get to this point. Any of whom would actually have a potential lore-bound reason for entering the Entity’s realm. Theoretically, FNAF could work, but realistically wouldn’t it just end up being like Legion? We likely wouldn’t get four separate ability sets for each animatronic. Character-wise it would also most likely just be Freddy, with reskins to make him look like Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy.
Is it the exact same? No, but to me, it seems just close enough to scratch the itch. It also would prevent BHVR from impeding on the actual FNAF games, which are already pretty similar, to begin with. Instead, we could keep the entities separate and consider a different license to bring into Dead by Daylight. Maybe something that doesn’t already have its own game associated with it?
Also, do you not understand how cool it would be to have The Overlook Hotel from The Shining as a map? *Spoilers for a 42-year-old movie ahead!* I don’t know exactly how old you all are, but think about that huge ass hedge maze. Just think about how Danny Torrance absolutely bamboozled his father at the end of the movie. I mean the final act of that film is essentially peak Dead by Daylight. Danny looped his dad around the maze, cutting off sightlines and playing mind-games in order to escape. That part of the movie was way ahead of its time if you ask me.
Ngl, I kinda hate it?
On a list of over 40 different franchises… you guys, the Dead by Daylight community, voted for FNAF as the most wanted license. Though Scream and a bunch of horror games were also on that list even though we technically already have Scream… so whatever I guess. My point here is that instead of trying to jumpstart the Behaviour Ludic Universe – or BLU – you can just play the actual games belonging to some of the franchises suggested in the poll.
This way, BHVR can focus on movie licenses, or you know, make some more original characters. Just saying.
