The 2020 Canadian Game Awards – when and how to watch

The first annual Canadian Game Awards will be held on Sept. 18 at 7:30 PM ET. Produced by Northern Arena, the award show is a celebration of Canada’s growing mark on the gaming industry.

The awards show will highlight everything from Canadian-developed games in 2019 and 2020 to personalities, esports organizations, and more.

The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) has lent its support of the Canadian Game Awards. In addition, eight provincial bodies of the industry have also partnered. These include the Canadian Interactive Alliance, The Interactive & Digital Media Industry Association of British Columbia, Digital Alberta, La Guilde Du Jeu Video Du Quebec, Interactive Ontario, Interactive Society of Nova Scotia, New Media Manitoba, Videogames PEI, and Saskatchewan Interactive.

Originally, the awards were envisioned to be a live awards ceremony, held in Toronto on Apr. 9. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the award show was delayed. It has been decided that the production of the Canadian Game Awards is shifting from a live presentation to a digital pre-recorded show with pre and post-show inclusions.

A few nominations in tonight’s award show include:

  • Luminosity Gaming
  • Vancouver Titans

The Canadian Game Awards kicks off with a 30-minute pre-show at 7:30 PM ET on Twitch. The award show itself begins right after. It will run for approximately 30-minutes before ending with a post-show panel analysis.

Steve Vegvari

Steve is based in Toronto, Ontario. His adoration for everything gaming began very early on in the SNES-era. He’s gone on to write honest content around the web. While not writing about games, Steve is often looking for the next big narrative-driven title. Something with an impactful story, regardless of genre or platform. Bonus points if it has an appealing achievement/trophy list!
