The Sims 5 – everything we know so far

The Sims 4 was released six years ago and in those years, EA has released 15 different expansion packs for the game. Some – most – would argue that instead of that many expansions, they should have released another game. Many fans are itching for information on The Sims 5 and any news about it.

Recently, EA CEO Andrew Wilson gave players the closest thing to a confirmation, without formally confirming their plans. So what do we know about The Sims 5?

What stage the game is in

Wilson’s statements about the game would suggest that it is in the conceptual phase of its life. Wilson stated that they will stay true to the original plans for what The Sims should be as a game, but they will have to start embracing the new idea of social interaction and competition. This idea is anticipated to become part of the experience for years to come with the franchise. What exactly all this means for the player experience is for to speculation for now.

When we can expect The Sims 5

EA has given no clear release date, or even a year that they anticipate the game coming out in. While not giving a firm date, the company has confirmed that The Sims 5 will be available to play on next gen consoles. Since both the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X are slated to launch during the 2020 holiday season, that’s likely earliest we can hope for The Sims 5.

Wilson also confirmed that The Sims 5 can be played on social media and cloud gaming platforms as well. This is so players can interact with other players they know, in the game. From that it can be deducted that the game may be closer than we think it is.

What else we know

The role-playing in The Sims 5 will be lifted to higher levels than we’ve seen it already. Players will be able to integrate members of their Sim family with their friends on social media or even their real life friends. The developers are trying to make sure that fans are gifted an entirely new level to their gaming experience. Many fans have been vocal about their lack of interest in an online version of the game, but it is fair to note that this version is aimed at younger fans.

Fan dreams for the game

Many fans want EA to bring back the open-world aspect of The Sims 3 that was lost in The Sims 4. They would rather walk to a neighbor’s house than watch loading screens. The Sims 3 also had modes of transportation that players could use, and that is another thing that many fans of the game want to have back. The main thing that fans want is full control over the game and how they play it.

More information regarding The Sims 5 and any news around it is expected to happen at EA Play 2020 in June.
