Just Dishin’ x Zale NHL 20 esports tournament announced for Xbox and PS4

Part of the proceeds will go towards COVID-19 relief.

NHL 20 players can hit the sticks and join in on the COVID-19 relief effort with the Just Dishin’ x Zale tournament. The multi-platform tournament is a joint charity esports event hosted by the two hockey streetwear brands. With hundreds of participants and thousands of dollars on the line, the competition is sure to be fierce.

The tournament will take place across two separate play dates for each console. The PS4 event takes place on Saturday, May 23 while the Xbox one takes place a week later on May 30. 256 players will go head-to-head in an All-Star bracket, with over $2000 worth of cash and prizes going to the champion. The tournament is open to players across North America, and sign ups for the event cost $25. Just Dishin’ and Zale will be donating 10% of proceeds from the event towards the Center for Disaster Philanthropy and their COVID-19 relief program.

Big names and brands in the world of hockey will be involved with the event. Several pro and amateur hockey players are participating as well. Kingston Frontenac’s star Shane Wright, Detroit Red Wings prospect Jared McIsaac and NHL esports personality Andrew “thenasher61” Telfer are some of the names involved with the Just Dishin’ x Zale tournament. The larger-than-life NHL podcast Spittin’ Chiclets is one of the major sponsors of the event, as well as TSN’s BARDOWN.

Zale is an apparel company co-founded by Los Angeles Kings prospect Akil Thomas. He first started designing clothing at 13 years old alongside his friend Ethan Low before the two went on to found Zale.  At only 20 years old, Thomas has made quite the name for himself in the hockey world.  He was an alternative captain Team Canada when they took gold at the 2020 IIHF World Juniors. He also helped lead Canada to a gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2017. The Toronto native played for both the Niagara IceDogs and the Peterborough Petes during his time in the Ontario Hockey League.

“We’re all eager to get off the bench, but this is a time unlike any other in sports history,” said Thomas in a press release. “While fans have had the chance to watch pros play in tournaments, we’re excited to bring an experience created specifically for them to get in on the action.”

Just Dishin’ is a hockey streetwear brand based out of Rochester, NY. The brand bills itself as representatives of “a movement of self-expression in hockey culture.” The apparel company produces a variety of hockey shirts, hoodies, accesories and “skate skins.” Just Dishin’ has previously hosted several NHL esports events before, including two PS4 LAN events in Buffalo, NY.

Chel players looking to sign up for their shot at the crown can purchase their digital ticket for the event at the Just Dishin’ website. The tournament will be live streamed – stay tuned to SQUAD for more details!
