The Animal Crossing Summer Event is here! And with it comes what we’ve all been waiting for – swimming!
I should note that you still can’t swim in the actual pool available as a decoration item, but whatever. Starting July 3 players will be able to dive into the surrounding seas and swim around. While doing so, they’re also able to track down and find new creatures for decoration or for donation!
There is also a new encounter with an adorable otter named Pascal! While diving, you’ll be able to meet with Pascal, who’ll ask you to let him have one of the sea creatures you’ve just caught. In return he’ll trade you an item or DIY recipe – much like Wisp or Gulliver encounters.
Speaking of Gulliver, it seems that there will be a new encounter with a seagull similar to Gulliver, but maybe not actually him? This seagull seems to be wearing a different outfit. Maybe this is a pirate relative of Gulliver’s? Or maybe it’s just Gulliver after a costume party and a bit too much of that good stuff. The trailer shows him as Gulliver himself, but the header suspiciously labels it as a “New Encounter…?” So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see exactly who this is. I still think it’s his long lost brother Steven Seagull waking up after a long night of partying and reminiscing on how good his career used to be.
Also keep an eye out for new items and themes, as the DIY recipe showcased in the trailer is part of a new mermaid set of items available for crafting. I’m still holding out hope that we’ll get more summer clothes aside from the wetsuit – I’m not saying I want speedos or anything – but maybe like, uhhh. Yeah, no, I can’t really think of much else so just give us the speedos, honestly.
And that’s all for now! Or… is it?
The trailer also states that this is only the first wave – get it? A second wave will come in early August, and will likely feature more summer-themed encounters and items alike.
I’m really hoping we get some kind of carnival or water park – though that does sound a bit far fetched. Seeing as diving was a feature in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, it’s not much of a stretch to imagine that we may also see the return of Tortimer Island. For those of you uninitiated, Tortimer Island was a place you could go to play mini-games – another feature I
begged asked for in a recent rant wishlist! Now, I do mean the Island Tours, which I guess were really just mini-games titled something different to make you think they weren’t actually mini-games.
I also wanted an island expansion, and hopefully with this new foray into the sea, expansion becomes more and more possible. We’ll be patiently waiting to see what else comes of the summer events in Animal Crossing, but for now be sure to stay tuned for more news on what’s coming to the game next month!
