In a previous article, we covered a leak regarding the release date of Overwatch 2 made by Playstation Brazil. Now there’s been another leak made yesterday on the Vancouver Titans twitter account. The Tweet was quickly deleted, but explicitly mentioned that “Overwatch 2 is coming out this year”.
It wouldn’t be a big surprise if current Overwatch League teams had some knowledge about when Overwatch 2 would be released. With every new season of the league come big changes that create hype for the fans. For example, Season 2 of the Overwatch League provided expansion teams. This year’s Season 3 introduced home stands and travel among the teams.
Now with the announcement of Overwatch 2, it’s likely that Season 4 of the Overwatch League will have, well… Overwatch 2. It wouldn’t make sense from a marketing perspective if that wasn’t the case.
Coincidence? Maybe not
We’re barely into 2020 and there have already been two leaks made by plausible sources. It seems as though Blizzard may be secretly planning to release Overwatch 2 during this year’s holiday season. However, it also makes sense to not announce anything official, just in case something comes up that would cause the game to be delayed.
Blizzard should perhaps be more proactive with how they release information. The company has had issues before with leaks and early announcements. Not too long ago, there was talk about adding in social features into the game that were never followed through with. The last thing Blizzard wants is to create more false hopes for the community.
In the end, Overwatch is an amazing game that has captured the hearts of many. The game has gone through is ups and downs throughout the years, but Overwatch 2 can move the game in the right direction. And part of that transition could include better communication.
Either way, I doubt this is going to be the last leak we see regarding Overwatch 2, so stay tuned for more updates.
