The Crown Tundra brought Regirock, Regice, Registeel, and Regigigas back into the game. Not only that, but we have two new Regi Pokemon, which are Regieleki and Regidrago. Like always the way to catch these Pokemon is hidden behind puzzles you must solve.
In this article I will be telling you how to find and catch Regice.
Unlocking Regice
First you must go to the Crown Tundra and do the introductory storyline. To get to the Crown Tundra, fly to Wedgehurst Station and talk to the guy in the green vest. Then select the Crown Tundra Station and you will be thrown into the story. You must finish the Dynamax adventure and then go with Peony to setup your base.
Then Peony will give you The Legendary Giants quest which leads you to the Regi Pokemon.
After obtaining the quest you will have to find Regice’s temple which is hidden on Snowpoint Slope. This temple is quite far away so prepare for a long and chilly bike ride. To get to Snowpoint Slope go through Frostpoint Field into Giant’s Bed. Go towards the left and you will see a few ruins on your right. Ride through these ruins and keep left as you go. You know you are going the right way because you will pass by two ponds.
Continue uphill from these ponds and keep left, and you will finally come to Snowpoint Slope where the grass turns into snow. Now you can go up Snowpoint Slope but do not go all the way up. Regice’s temple is hidden and easy to miss. What you want to do is only go up the slope until you get to a brick ruin. Go behind this ruin and you will find a hidden path leading to a secret area.
Follow this path all the way down and you will find Regice’s temple. At the temple press A on the door. This will allow you to use the temple as a flight point. Along with this you will get a clue on how to open the door. It will say “Walk together with a living crystal of snow.”
The Pokemon this is referencing is Cryogonal, of course! It is an ice type Pokemon that looks like a snowflake. I will detail how to catch this Pokemon in the next section.
Preparing to catch Regice
Before going into battle make sure you are prepared. Have plenty of Max Potions, Full Restores and Revives to keep your Pokemon alive if you get unlucky. Regice can freeze or paralyze your Pokemon so that is why I suggest having Full Restores on this fight. Along with those you will need plenty of Pokeballs. You can bring Quick Balls, Timer Balls, Dusk Balls, Ultra Balls, or whatever Pokeball of choice. The ones with the best capture rate are Timer Balls after 8 turns have passed, Dusk Balls at night, and Quick Balls but only on the first turn of battle.
As for your Pokemon team, you want Pokemon level 70 or above, as Regice is level 70. Make sure to bring a strong False Swiper so you can get Regice to 1 hp safely. You will also need a move that can inflict paralysis or sleep, as these status effects will increase the chances of catching Regice. The best False Swipers are Gallade, Zeraora, Venusaur, Parasect, and Mew. As these can all learn False Swipe and a status-inducing move.
Regice moves are Ice Beam, Zap Cannon, Amnesia, and Icy Wind. I recommend choosing Zeraora if possible since it has the ability Volt Absorb. The reason you need this, is because of Zap Cannon which can paralyze your Pokemon. If you do not have Zeraora, you do have some other options, but these Pokemon usually cannot learn False Swipe. Other Pokemon with Volt Absorb are Jolteon, Lanturn, Dracozolt, and Arctozolt.
You can get a Pokemon with the Lightning Rod ability instead if you cannot find something with Volt Absorb, since Lightning Rod also absorbs electric type moves. The best one would be Alolan Marowak since it is a fire type, so none of Regice’s moves will hit it that hard.
Other Pokemon with this ability are Pikachu, Rhyperior, Manectric, and Pincurchin. You could also get Raichu or Seaking, but this is a Hidden Ability for them, so it is harder to get. Another option is to use ground type Pokemon which are immune to all electric type moves.
Once you have your team it is time to catch a Cryogonal. You need this Pokemon in your party to open Regice’s temple. Luckily they are easy to find as they spawn in the world throughout the Snowside Slope. You should definitely see a few on your way to Regice’s temple. Battle one of them and use False Swipe to get it to 1 hp. Then paralyze or sleep it and start throwing Pokeballs.
Cryognal will not like it though, and has a lower catch rate than other Pokemon. So do not be surprised if it takes multiple Pokeballs to catch it. Feel free to use Dusk Balls if it is night and Timer Balls if you need to.
Once you have caught Cryognal, make it the first Pokemon in your party. You will need to have the ability to walk with the first Pokemon in your party. If you have this feature turned off this will not work, because you have to walk with Cryognal at the front.
With Cryognal out of its Pokeball, talk to Regice’s temple door and it will open.
Battling Regice
Now onto engaging in battle with Regice (which is not shiny locked, by the way, so feel free to look for a shiny Regice.) Inside the temple you will see a bunch of circles on the floor. Step over each circle once to make them light up. Once they are all lit up, the statue will turn on.
Before talking to the statue make sure to save your game in case something goes wrong. Then talk to the statue and Regice will attack.
Once in battle you will want to paralyze Regice. Then start chipping its health down with False Swipe or other moves. Be careful, because Regice is more frail than Regirock and Registeel. Make sure to only use False Swipe when Regice goes into red hp. Remember to put Regice to sleep if you choose not to paralyze it.
Now you can start throwing your Pokeball of choice at it. The capturing process will take a while, but eventually you will get a Regice of your own!
