The Crown Tundra brought Regirock, Regice, Registeel, and Regigigas back into the game. Not only that, but we have two new Regi Pokemon, which are Regieleki and Regidrago. Like always, the way to catch these Pokemon is hidden behind puzzles you must solve.
In this article I will be telling you how to find and catch Regidrago. Be aware that Regieleki and Regidrago share the same temple, and you can only choose one to catch per game.
First you must go to the Crown Tundra and do the introductory storyline. To get to the Crown Tundra fly to Wedgehurst Station and talk to the guy in the green vest. Then select the Crown Tundra Station and you will be thrown into the story. You must finish the Dynamax adventure and then go with Peony to setup your base.
Then Peony will give you The Legendary Giants quest which leads you to the Regi Pokemon.
After obtaining the quest you will have to catch Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. The reason for this is because you need all three to open Regieleki’s temple. To learn how to catch them, check out my guides for Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. Once you have them, make sure they are in your party and now it is time to go to Regidrago’s temple.
Regidrago’s temple is hidden and can be confusing to get to. The temple resides in Three-Point Pass deep within the Crown Tundra. To get there, start by going through Frostpoint Slope to Giant’s Bed. Head towards the Old Cemetery and go through here as well.
Just past the cemetery the path splits – keep to the left and you will find an entrance to another area. Go up this small slope and you will come across a large area of grass.
Be careful here, as there are a ton of large Pokemon that will pop up around you, such as Bronzong and Copperajah. So I suggest you take it slow to get around these bulky Pokemon instead of zooming through the grass.
When you get past the grass there will be a river leading into a cave. Go up this river and into the cave and you will now be in Roaring-Sea Caves.
Near the end of the river you will see land to your right and this will take you through the rest of the cave. As you go down the path it will split into three directions. There will be a path on your left, in front of you, and your right. Go to the path directly in front of you, and turn right as soon as this new path splits. This will finally take you to the exit of the cave.
Now you will be in the Frigid Sea. Make your way to the water and lookout for icebergs because these are actually Avalugg. So you do not want to waste time fighting them. Just head to the right and you will see another area of land you can bike onto. Go up the hill and turn left at the gigantic boulder, and you will find yourself at Regieleki’s temple.
Talk to the temple door to unlock this area as a flight point. The temple door will read “A giant of rock, a giant of ice, a giant of steel. When gather the three giants, the door of destiny shall be opened.” If you have Regirock, Regice, and Registeel in your party when you interact with the door, it will open.
Before going in though, make sure to save your game, and be prepared for the fight!
Preparing to catch Regidrago
Make sure to have plenty of Max Potions and Revives to keep your Pokemon alive if you get unlucky. Along with those you will need plenty of Pokeballs. You can bring Quick Balls, Timer Balls, Dusk Balls, Ultra Balls, or whatever Pokeball of choice. The ones with the best capture rate are Timer Balls after 8 turns have passed, Dusk Balls at night, and Quick Balls but only on the first turn of battle.
As for your Pokemon team you want Pokemon level 70 or above, as Regidrago is level 70. Make sure to bring a strong False Swiper so you can get Regidrago to 1 hp safely. You will also need a move that can inflict sleep or paralysis, as these will increase the chances of catching Regidrago. The best False Swipers are Gallade, Zeraora, Venusaur, Parasect, and Mew. As these can all learn False Swipe and a status inducing move.
You will also want to consider bringing a Pokemon that can Taunt – which Gallade, Zeraora, and Mew can all do. The reason for this is because Regidrago has Laser Focus which guarantees the next move will be a critical hit. This allows Regidrago to do big damage to your Pokemon, which can put you in a tough spot. Taunting Regidrago will prevent it from using Laser Focus and therefore make the battle much easier.
Some other Pokemon you may want to consider bringing are fairy type Pokemon, since these are immune to dragon type moves. Regidrago has two such moves: Dragon Claw and Dragon Energy. Dragon Energy is a new move, but it is essentially just a dragon version of Eruption. This move does more damage based on the health of the user. So if Regidrago is at 1 hp, this move does only one point of damage.
Fairy type Pokemon can be a huge plus here, because Regidrago’s ability increases the power of its dragon type moves by 50%, making Dragon Claw rip through your team quickly. If you have some fairy types to throw out, Regidrago’s only option is to use Wood Hammer. Togekiss is probably the best fairy type to bring, especially if you already have a bulky one laying around.
Now onto engaging in battle with Regidrago, which is not shiny locked, by the way, so feel free to look for a shiny Regidrago. Before going into the temple, the camera will pan up to show you two symbols. The symbol on the left represents Regieleki and the right represents Regidrago. Inside the temple you will see a bunch of circles on the floor. Step over the circles to match the pattern for Regidrago, and the room will start emitting a dragon glow.
Below is a picture of what pattern you need to do for Regidrago.
The statue in the middle of the room will then light up. Make sure to save your game, and then talk to the statue. Regidrago will then attack to start the battle. Throw a Quick Ball right away to try and get that one turn catch.
Regidrago has a lot of health but low defenses so getting its hp down with False Swipe will not take too long. If you want to paralyze Regidrago, then do this after your Quick Ball attempt.
Once Regidrago is at one hp you can put it to sleep if you did not paralyze it. Now switch to your fairy type Pokemon to avoid getting hit by Dragon Claw. Throw your Pokeball of choice, and eventually you will catch Regidrago!
There you have it, this is how to get Regidrago in Pokemon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra! If you need help with the other Regis, or if you are having trouble with any other parts of The Crown Tundra, check out my other guides.
