The Crown Tundra brought Regirock, Regice, Registeel, and Regigigas back into the game. Not only that, but we have two new Regi Pokemon, which are Regieleki and Regidrago. Like always, the way to catch these Pokemon is hidden behind puzzles you must solve.
In this article I will be telling you how to find and catch Registeel.
First you must go to the Crown Tundra and do the introductory storyline. To get to the Crown Tundra fly to Wedgehurst Station and talk to the guy in the green vest. Then select the Crown Tundra Station and you will be thrown into the story. You must finish the Dynamax adventure and then go with Peony to setup your base.
Then Peony will give you The Legendary Giants quest which leads you to the Regi Pokemon.
After obtaining the quest you will have to find Registeel’s temple, which is the easiest to find. Just make your way down Frostpoint Field. Stick to the right as you go down the hill into Giant’s Bed. You will see the temple immediately on your right. Press A on the temple door and this will be unlocked as a flight point. You will also get the riddle “Let ring the piercing note that will wake the giant of steel.”
At first you may think you need a Pokemon to sing to the door. But that is not the case, in fact you hold the key to opening the door. Stand as close to the door as possible and press down on the left joystick to whistle. Then the doors will open, but do not enter just yet. You need to make sure you are prepared!
Preparing to catch Registeel
Before going into battle, stock up on plenty of Max Potions and Revives to keep your Pokemon alive if you get unlucky. Along with those you will need plenty of Pokeballs. You can bring Quick Balls, Timer Balls, Dusk Balls, Ultra Balls, or whatever Pokeball of choice.
The ones with the best capture rate are Timer Balls after 8 turns have passed, Dusk Balls at night, and Quick Balls but only on the first turn of battle.
As for your Pokemon team you want Pokemon level 70 or above, as Registeel is level 70. Make sure to bring a strong False Swiper so you can get Registeel to 1 hp safely. You will also need a move that can inflict paralysis or sleep, as these status effects will increase the chances of catching Registeel. The best False Swipers are Gallade, Zeraora, Venusaur, Parasect, and Mew. These can all learn False Swipe and a status-inducing move.
It is also worth it to bring a Pokemon with Taunt since Registeel has Iron Defense. Given that Registeel is a steel type with already large defenses, you do not want it making itself any bulkier. This move is only a problem while you are trying to chip down Registeel’s health. Gallade, Zeraora, and Mew can all learn Taunt, allowing them to be your all-in-one Pokemon.
I recommend choosing Zeraora if possible, since it has the ability Volt Absorb, and Registeel also has the move Charge Beam. This is an electric type move, and what is bad about it is that it can raise Registeel’s special attack. If you allow Registeel to get enough Charge Beams off, it will start hitting like a truck.
If you do not have Zeraora you do have some options, but these Pokemon usually cannot learn False Swipe. Other Pokemon with Volt Absorb are Jolteon, Lanturn, Dracozolt, and Arctozolt.
You can also get a Pokemon with the Lightning Rod ability instead if you cannot find something with Volt Absorb. Lightning Rod also absorbs electric type moves. The best one would be Alolan Marowak since it is a fire type, so none of Registeel’s moves will hit it that hard. Other Pokemon with this ability are Pikachu, Rhyperior, Manectric, and Pincurchin.
You could also get Raichu or Seaking, but this is a Hidden Ability for them, so it is harder to get. Or you can just bring a ground type Pokemon to absorb Charge Beam as well. Remember to still bring a full team of Pokemon with you just in case some of them get knocked out.
Registeel’s other moves are Heavy Slam and Flash Cannon.
Now onto engaging in battle with Registeel (which is not shiny locked, by the way, so feel free to look for a shiny Registeel.) Inside the temple you will see a bunch of circles on the floor. Step over each circle once to make them light up. Once they are all lit up then the statue will turn on.
Before talking to the statue make sure to save your game in case something goes wrong. Then talk to the statue and Registeel will attack.
Once in battle you will want to Taunt Registeel immediately to stop it from using Iron Defense. Make sure to reapply the Taunt every three turns until Registeel is at 1 hp. Then paralyze Registeel or attack it. Make sure to use neutral hitting moves. Remember to watch out for that Charge Beam!
Registeel is the bulkiest with good defense and steel typing, so trying to False Swipe it to 1 hp will take forever. It is better to use moves that do neutral damage to Registeel to get its health low. Once it is at red hp only use False Swipe and put it to sleep, or make sure it is paralyzed.
Now you can start throwing your Pokeball of choice at it. The capturing process will take a while but eventually you will get a Registeel of your own!
